Popular Nigerian disc jockey Rachel Martins, widely known as DJ Dimplenipple, has shared insights into her rise in the entertainment industry, stressing that success goes far beyond the glamour seen on stage.
Speaking with reporters in Lagos, the DJ highlighted the dedication, discipline, and consistency required to build and sustain a career in the highly competitive music scene.
According to her, while many people are drawn to the excitement of DJing—the performances, crowd energy, and vibrant nightlife—they often overlook the effort and preparation that happen behind the scenes.
“People see the fun part — the stage, the dancing, the crowd — but they don’t see the work behind it. For me, hard work and consistency are everything. You have to keep improving, keep showing up, and keep proving yourself every time,” she said.
DJ Dimplenipple, who began her professional journey in 2019, explained that remaining consistent over the years has been key to her growth. She noted that constant practice and self-improvement have helped her sharpen her skills and build credibility among fans and industry players.
“I practice a lot, I listen to new music every day, and I study different styles. You can’t afford to be stagnant in this industry. The moment you relax, someone else is ready to take your place,” she added.
The DJ also spoke about her educational background, revealing that she trained at Rise Academy in South Africa. While the experience gave her a strong technical foundation, she emphasized that real development comes from continuous learning and hands-on experience.
Beyond technical skills, she underscored the importance of professionalism in the entertainment business, especially when dealing with clients, brands, and event organisers.
“It’s not just about talent. Your attitude, your timing, your ability to deliver — all of that matters,” she said. “When people book me, they know I’m coming with energy and excellence.”
Despite the challenges that come with working in a fast-paced and competitive industry, DJ Dimplenipple said she remains focused on her long-term ambitions. She expressed a desire to expand her influence globally and perform on some of the biggest stages around the world.
Her career journey has already seen her perform at several notable events, including Warri Again, Okochiri Festivals, Tape Lagos, and Red Room. She also completed a successful tour in the United Kingdom, which helped introduce her brand to a broader international audience.
Reflecting on her progress so far, the DJ maintained that her motivation comes from a constant drive to improve and evolve.
“I’m always pushing myself to be better than I was yesterday. That’s what keeps me going,” she said.
Her story serves as a reminder that behind every energetic performance is a foundation built on discipline, persistence, and a commitment to growth—qualities she believes are essential for anyone hoping to thrive in the entertainment industry.
