 British-Nigerian cultural curator and music executive Grace Ladoja has made history after becoming the first African woman to design a signature sneaker for Nike, marking a major milestone for African representation in global fashion and streetwear.


The collaboration, unveiled in Lagos, introduces a fresh take on the iconic Air Max Plus silhouette, popularly known as the TN.


 The sneaker, presented during the 2026 edition of the Homecoming Festival, reflects Ladoja’s dual cultural identity, blending influences from both London and Lagos into a single creative expression.


Her design stands out for its strong cultural symbolism. It incorporates elements inspired by everyday Nigerian life, including traditional textures, Pan-African colour palettes, and motifs such as cowrie shells, which have deep historical and cultural significance across the continent.


 The result is a piece that goes beyond fashion, telling a story about heritage, identity, and global connection.


Ladoja is widely known as the founder of the Homecoming Festival, a Lagos-based cultural event that has grown into a major platform for celebrating African creativity. 


Since its launch in 2018, the festival has attracted artists, designers, and creatives from across the world, helping to bridge the gap between African talent and international audiences. The event has also become a hub for collaborations, mentorship, and cultural exchange.


Beyond the festival, Ladoja co-founded Metallic Inc, a London-based creative agency that works at the intersection of music, fashion, and youth culture. 


Through this platform, she has partnered with leading global brands, helping them connect with emerging African creatives and tap into the continent’s vibrant cultural scene.


Her influence extends beyond business and fashion. Over the years, she has played a key role in positioning Lagos as a growing centre for global culture, particularly in music and streetwear.

 Her efforts have contributed to the increasing visibility of African talent on the international stage.


In recognition of her contributions, Ladoja was awarded an MBE in 2018, highlighting her impact on music and culture. She has also received several industry accolades and has been featured among influential figures shaping global fashion.


This latest collaboration with Nike further cements her status as a leading voice in contemporary culture. By bringing African storytelling into a globally recognised product, Ladoja continues to push boundaries and open doors for future creatives from the continent.
