US, Israel Launch Strikes on Iranian Oil Facilities

Overnight, the United States and Israel carried out coordinated airstrikes on several oil facilities in Tehran and surrounding areas, leaving at least four people dead and causing significant damage, according to Iranian state media.

Keramat Veyskarami, a government spokesperson, told state television that “four oil depots and a petroleum products transport centre in Tehran and Alborz were attacked by enemy aircraft” during the operation. The fatalities reportedly included two oil tanker drivers along with other personnel working at the facilities.

“Four of our personnel, including two oil tanker drivers, were killed in the incident,” Veyskarami said, confirming that the fires triggered by the attack have since been brought under control. Authorities also noted that while the infrastructure sustained damage, the overall oil storage and transport capacity remains intact.

Residents in Tehran reported seeing large plumes of smoke over the city, which lingered throughout the night and into the morning hours. The smell of burning oil and chemicals reportedly filled the air, creating a visible haze across the capital and nearby districts.

Despite the destruction, Iranian officials reassured the public that there are “sufficient gasoline reserves” in place to prevent a major disruption to fuel supply, highlighting that the attacks, while impactful, have not crippled the country’s energy distribution.

These latest strikes come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following a series of confrontations between Iran, the US, and Israel. On February 28, a previous set of attacks by the United States and Israel resulted in the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, triggering retaliatory measures across the region.
