The wife of Nigerian Fuji singer Shanko Rasheed Atanda has made a series of emotional and troubling allegations against her husband, accusing him of abandonment, domestic abuse, and neglect in the aftermath of their son Jamal’s death.
In a tearful video that has since gone viral on social media, the grieving mother recounted her painful experiences, claiming that the singer deserted her and their three children during one of the most difficult periods of their lives. Her outcry comes just days after Shanko Rasheed publicly announced the passing of their first son, Jamal, a development that drew widespread sympathy from fans and colleagues.
Speaking directly to Nigerians in the emotional clip, the woman alleged that her troubles began after she suffered a serious accident on October 11, which left her with injuries to her legs and unable to continue working. According to her, the incident plunged the family into deeper financial hardship, with little to no support coming from her husband.
“Nigerians, please help me. I had three children for him, and Jamal was our firstborn. I had an accident on October 11 that affected my legs, and since then, I have not been able to work,” she said tearfully.
She further claimed that their financial struggles worsened when their landlord served them a quit notice. According to her, Shanko allegedly asked her to obtain a loan to settle the rent, promising to repay it. However, she alleged that after collecting the money, he disappeared, leaving her and the children stranded.
“He told me to get a loan so he could pay the rent, and I did. He collected the money and abandoned me. Eventually, we were chased out of the house, and we had to take shelter in a church,” she stated.
The distressed mother also accused the singer of failing to provide basic care for their children, including neglecting their educational needs. She alleged that despite repeated pleas, Shanko refused to pay Jamal’s school fees, adding that the emotional burden deeply affected the boy.
“Jamal was always sad and worried. I kept begging him to pay the school fees, but he refused,” she said.
Recounting the heartbreaking events that led to Jamal’s death, she alleged that the young boy fell seriously ill, suffering from persistent vomiting and noticeable weight loss. According to her, she reached out to his father for help, but he allegedly showed little concern.
“I called his dad, and he said it was not his business,” she claimed.
She explained that she had to borrow money to cover hospital bills and that although Jamal was initially discharged, his health deteriorated again, resulting in multiple hospital visits. When his condition became critical and he was placed on oxygen support, she said she contacted Shanko once more for urgent financial assistance.
“I told him the oxygen was N150,000, and he only sent N60,000. While I was still paying for his drugs, Jamal passed away,” she said, sobbing.
The woman also made shocking claims of violent behaviour, alleging that following their son’s death, the singer accused her of being responsible and threatened her life at the hospital.
“After Jamal died, he accused me of killing him. He brought out a gun and said he would kill me too. People around helped me escape,” she alleged.
She further claimed that he later returned wielding a cutlass, threatened her again, and eventually took custody of their remaining two children, denying her access to them.
“Right now, Shanko has taken away my two children. Nigerians, please have mercy on me. I have nobody. Help me get my children back,” she pleaded.
Appealing to the public for support, the grieving mother insisted she has evidence to substantiate her allegations. She also claimed that throughout Jamal’s illness, her husband was allegedly spending time with another woman instead of attending to his family’s crisis.
As of the time of filing this report, Shanko Rasheed has not issued any public response to the serious allegations, and efforts to reach his management for comments were unsuccessful.
The disturbing claims have since sparked intense reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for thorough investigation, intervention from relevant authorities, and protection for the woman and her remaining children.
