Multipro Enterprise Limited, producers of Hypo Bleach, has cautioned Nigerians against consuming the product following a viral online controversy linked to content creators King Mitchy and VeryDarkMan.
In a statement shared on Instagram, the company’s marketing manager, Adebayo Adeyemo, stressed that Hypo Bleach is strictly a cleaning agent and not fit for human consumption.
“Hypo Bleach, Nigeria’s number one bleach brand, is formulated to remove stains, whiten your white fabric, deodorize and kill 99.9% of germs. It is not a drink.
“It is not something to consume for the sake of trends,” the statement read.
The company also raised concerns over viral videos and AI-generated images circulating online that falsely depict Hypo as a beverage, warning that such content is misleading and potentially life-threatening.
“We want to be unambiguous: those images are fabricated, that framing is false, and anyone encouraging others to consume Hypo, even as a joke, even for views, is putting lives at risk,” the firm said.
The alert follows an intense online feud between King Mitchy and VeryDarkMan, which reportedly triggered a disturbing trend where some creators simulated suicide attempts using Hypo sachets.
Calling on influencers and bloggers to act responsibly, the company underscored the serious consequences of promoting harmful online challenges.
“To every influencer, blogger, and content creator: Your reach is real. So is your responsibility. A trend that ends in ill-health is not a trend worth starting.”
Hypo Bleach further advised young Nigerians to put their safety first and seek support when struggling emotionally.
“You do not have to prove anything to anyone. Not online. Not offline. Not ever. If someone is pressuring you to try this, that is not a dare. That is harm.”
Public concern intensified after VeryDarkMan appeared in a video taking a substance from a Hypo sachet, which many interpreted as a reaction to the viral trend.
This move reportedly encouraged a wave of imitations, with content creators using Hypo sachets in skits and videos to stage mock suicide scenes.
The trend has since attracted heavy backlash from parents, activists, and concerned Nigerians, who have described it as dangerous and deeply troubling, with some calling on authorities to step in and curb the spread of such content.
