Nollywood actress Adeola Yusuf Kafirat Omashalewa, popularly known as Basira Beere, has spoken candidly about her personal struggles, including heartbreak, misconceptions about marriage, and the pain of losing pregnancies.
In a heartfelt interview with Oyinmomo TV, the Yoruba actress took viewers through moments that shaped her life both on and off the screen.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Basira admitted that she had been misled about the true nature of marriage.
“My parents really misled me. How do I even begin to recount the number of times I’ve had sex? It’s not possible to have been married to these men without them having sex with me.
I believed marriage was for sex, not for learning. To me, the ‘lesson’ in marriage was having sex morning and night,” she revealed.
Her story took a more personal turn as she recounted an experience where she discovered she was pregnant without realizing it, because her menstrual cycle had continued as usual. The revelation came after a romantic gesture on Valentine’s Day, which she later discovered had been misleading.
“I was once pregnant without knowing, because I was still having my period. I was deceived by flowers on the 14th of February. When I later discovered I was pregnant, they summoned the man responsible, and he admitted he already knew. His mother had even suspected it from observing my legs when I visited their house,” Basira said, her voice filled with emotion.
The actress also revealed the heartbreak she endured through multiple pregnancy losses, saying, “I have lost four pregnancies.”
These experiences, she explained, were compounded by the way she had been taught to view relationships and marriage, which focused narrowly on physical intimacy rather than mutual growth and understanding.
Through her story, Basira Beere offers a rare glimpse into the personal life of a public figure who has faced challenges that are often kept private. Her reflections resonate beyond the glitz of Nollywood, touching on themes of love, deception, personal growth, and resilience.
By sharing these intimate details, she sheds light on the emotional realities that many women experience, while also reflecting on the lessons she has learned along the way.
Basira’s candid account reminds audiences that behind the fame and screen persona, real-life struggles continue to shape the journey of individuals, often in ways that the public rarely sees.
