Nollywood actress Kudirat Ogunnro, popularly known as Semilore Pweety, has strongly condemned recent social media trends involving the consumption of toxic substances for online attention, calling on the Nigeria Police Force to intervene urgently.

Her reaction followed a disturbing TikTok Live session by controversial social media influencer King Mitchy, who reportedly locked herself in a bathroom and drank Sniper, a powerful insecticide, in what many described as a dangerous and irresponsible act. The incident sparked widespread outrage online, with celebrities and concerned Nigerians expressing alarm over the growing culture of extreme content creation.

Taking to her social media platform, Semilore described the act as reckless and life-threatening, stressing that Sniper is strictly an insecticide and not meant for human consumption or online entertainment.

“Police should arrest anyone drinking Sniper on social media live or using it to create content. Sniper is an insecticide. It is not meant for human consumption. Promoting or drinking it online is dangerous and irresponsible, especially on platforms where children and young people are watching. This is not content. This is a threat to life. Nigeria Police Force, please take immediate action to stop this harmful trend and protect lives. Let’s use our platforms wisely. Let’s protect our youth. Let’s say no to drinking poison for clout,” she wrote.

Semilore’s statement has since gained significant traction online, resonating with many Nigerians who fear that such content could influence vulnerable youths and encourage harmful behaviour. Critics argue that social media platforms are increasingly being used to glorify reckless stunts in the pursuit of views, engagement, and online fame.

Actor Damola Olatunji also weighed in, questioning the apparent silence of law enforcement in the face of content that seemingly promotes suicide and self-harm. He noted that such actions were no longer humorous and should not be tolerated, particularly given the large number of children and teenagers who consume content on these platforms daily.

Similarly, Nollywood star IK Ogbonna renewed his call for stricter regulation of social media, lamenting the absence of accountability and parental guidance online. He observed that senseless behaviour often receives more attention than meaningful content, adding that the chase for clout has overshadowed responsibility and substance.

Mary Njoku also expressed concern about the direction of online culture, wondering whether her generation had collectively chosen distraction over purpose. She admitted that a brief visit to social media left her shocked by the amount of trivial and chaotic content competing for attention, describing the situation as troubling.

The controversy surrounding King Mitchy escalated following days of online backlash linked to her dispute with social commentator Very Dark Man (VDM). After the heated exchanges and alleged cyberbullying, Mitchy went live on TikTok, where she reportedly drank Hypo and later Sniper, raising serious concerns about her wellbeing.

In the aftermath, her management issued a statement announcing her alleged death, claiming that medical efforts at Prime Hospital in Abuja had failed. The statement described her as “more than a talent,” adding that she was “full of life, light, and dreams,” and called for prayers and privacy for her family.

However, Prime Care Hospital in Abuja later released a disclaimer, distancing itself from the report. The hospital clarified that King Mitchy was never admitted to their facility and did not die there, describing the circulating information as false and misleading.

“The management of Prime Care Hospitals wishes to inform the public that the announcement of the alleged de@th of Miss Mukoro Mitchelle, popularly known as King Mitchy, at our facility in Abuja is FALSE. King Mitchy was never a patient in our hospital and did not pass away here. We are working with the authorities to investigate the source of this misinformation and will take all necessary legal actions against those responsible. Please verify information through our official channels before sharing,” the hospital stated.

The unfolding events have reignited conversations about responsible content creation, mental health awareness, and the urgent need for safeguards on social media. Many Nigerians are now urging platforms, regulators, and law enforcement agencies to collaborate in curbing harmful trends before more lives are put at risk.

As public figures continue to speak out, the hope remains that this episode will serve as a wake-up call, encouraging safer online practices and greater accountability in the digital space.
