Nigeria is witnessing a transformative shift in how families approach puberty and menstrual wellbeing, with the launch of Girls Tag, the country’s first all-in-one period care kit designed to empower young girls with knowledge, confidence, and comfort. Leading this movement are acclaimed actress and philanthropist Mercy Johnson-Okojie and her daughter Purity Okojie, who have been announced as the initiative’s co-brand ambassadors.
For years, menstruation has remained a taboo topic, leaving many girls unprepared for puberty while parents struggled to provide guidance. Girls Tag aims to change that narrative by combining practical hygiene products with educational support, helping families foster open conversations about adolescence.
“As a mother, I want my daughter to step into womanhood without fear or embarrassment. Girls Tag is doing exactly that—helping families replace shame with pride and confusion with confidence,” Mercy Johnson-Okojie said, emphasizing the personal significance of the project.
Purity Okojie joins her mother in this mission, reflecting the authentic mother-daughter bond at the heart of the initiative. Their collaboration represents the experiences of numerous Nigerian families eager to equip their daughters with dignity and self-assurance as they navigate puberty.
A standout feature of the Girls Tag kit is Mercy Johnson-Okojie’s newly authored book, “Youberty”, a puberty guide tailored for boys and girls aged 10–13. Each kit includes a copy of the book, offering relatable advice and emotional support, ensuring that young people feel understood while learning about the changes of adolescence.
The kit is carefully curated to meet the practical and emotional needs of young girls. It includes premium sanitary pads in multiple sizes, overnight period pants for extra protection, panty liners, discreet disposable bags, and a stylish carrying pouch designed to fit seamlessly into everyday life. Each component has been selected to provide comfort, convenience, and confidence, allowing girls to manage their periods with ease both at home and in school.
Speaking on the partnership, Eddie Madaki and Oche Ejiga of iBlend Services, the regional agency representing Girls Tag, highlighted the importance of the ambassadors’ involvement: “Mercy and Purity’s voices are genuine. Their journey together mirrors the experiences of countless Nigerian families, making them the perfect ambassadors for Girls Tag.”
Girls Tag is set to launch nationwide in the second quarter of 2026 and will be accessible through retail outlets, pharmacies, shopping malls, and direct sales via the official website and Instagram handle @girlstag.ng.
Beyond being a product launch, Girls Tag represents a cultural movement. By combining education, practical support, and family engagement, the initiative seeks to normalize conversations around puberty and menstrual health. Mercy and Purity’s leadership underscores the message that girls deserve pride, understanding, and empowerment as they grow.
With the introduction of Girls Tag, Nigerian families are now equipped to navigate adolescence with confidence, ensuring that young girls embrace womanhood with dignity and knowledge.
