“This Is the Third Time” – Rita Edochie Condemns False Death Report

Veteran actress Rita Edochie has strongly condemned the spread of false reports claiming that legendary Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has died, describing the rumours as cruel, baseless and deeply troubling. 

The misleading story circulated widely across social media platforms earlier this week, sparking panic among fans before it was firmly debunked by the family and even the individual who originally shared it.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Rita Edochie expressed frustration over what she described as the third time such rumours have surfaced about the respected actor. 

Sharing a recent photo of Pete Edochie, she questioned why some individuals fabricate shocking stories simply to generate traffic, attention or financial gain.

 She wondered aloud whether those responsible ever consider the emotional distress such claims cause to family members, friends and loyal supporters.

Rita made it clear that Pete Edochie is alive and in good health. She reassured followers that there was no truth whatsoever in the viral reports and thanked well-wishers who reached out in concern. 

She also reflected on previous instances where similar rumours had circulated, noting that despite repeated death hoaxes, the veteran actor continues to remain strong and active.

The false claim reportedly began with a social media post alleging that the 78-year-old actor had been rushed to hospital and had passed away. 

The story quickly spread across platforms including X, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, highlighting how rapidly misinformation can travel in the digital age. The individual behind the initial post later issued a public apology, admitting the claim was fabricated.

Pete Edochie’s family also addressed the matter directly. His eldest son dismissed the report as completely untrue, affirming that his father is alive and well. 

The family’s communications team reiterated this position and cautioned bloggers and online publishers against sharing unverified information for clicks and engagement.

This latest episode underscores a growing problem in the entertainment industry, where prominent figures are frequently targeted by death hoaxes. Such misinformation not only causes unnecessary panic but can also damage reputations and create emotional strain for loved ones.
