In a no-holds-barred Instagram video, Nollywood actor Nosa Rex sounded off on the latest craze shaking up movie promotion: dancing.
Far from a gimmick, he insists it’s a must-do strategy for keeping viewers hooked and spreading the word about films anything less, he warns, is a recipe for being left behind.
“Most of you don't know how these things work,” Nosa stated. “Dancing doesn’t sell your movie by itself, but it holds your viewers, engages them, entertains them while they get your message, and makes them share it. Normal announcements just won’t cut it anymore. Our old strategies are gone!”
He singled out colleagues like Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, pointing to their success through creative promotion. “Funke Akindele has led the part of dancing and made billions yet you say you don’t want to dance? YOU DEY PLAY! Toyin Abraham, when she started dancing, looked funny, but she joined the billion gang. This is because she danced.”
Nosa was equally direct about veteran stars resisting the trend. “If God gives me money to make a cinema movie, Nna, we’ll have problems I will twerk more than strippers. Omotola says it’s not professional to dance she is right, it wasn’t professional in her time. But mama, this is not how it is now. Move with the train. Your movie is coming out March 6.”
He concluded with a playful yet pointed plea for support, telling fellow actors, “Omo sexy, you are supposed to even call Funke, ask her how she does it, then we’ll dance for your movie. Join the moving train!”
Nosa Rex’s words are a wake-up call for Nollywood stars: adapt to new trends or risk fading into irrelevance. In a world where audience engagement and shareable content dominate, his Instagram clip makes it clear dancing isn’t just fun, it’s a strategy for survival.
