Afrobeats superstar Davido, born David Adeleke, has officially withdrawn from the ongoing legal dispute over the custody of his daughter, Imade Adeleke, with her mother, Sophia Momodu. The singer revealed the decision through a series of heartfelt posts on his Instagram stories late Friday, providing insight into the emotional journey behind the move.

According to Davido, his goal throughout the proceedings was never to obtain full custody but rather to secure joint custody of his daughter. He explained that the drawn-out court battle ultimately caused more harm than good, particularly for Imade, and he expressed frustration at the public perception that anyone had “won” the case.

“1. I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody,” Davido wrote.

“2. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade … so I don’t know why some pple r celebrating.. there’s nothing to celebrate.”

The singer further revealed that his decision to step back from the custody battle was influenced by a deeply painful incident during court proceedings. He described a moment when the lawyer representing Sophia Momodu, Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah, referenced his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, which he called “a lowest blow” and utterly unacceptable.

“3. I’ve decided to drop the case because when I was spanking that lawyer in the court room all .. she would get so frustrated .. because normally I finish school .. I was finishing her .. until she brought out her last card! MY DECEASED SON! THATS A NO NO! Lowest blow!” he wrote.

Despite the challenges he faced in court, Davido affirmed his unwavering commitment to his daughter. He reassured fans and followers that Imade would grow up knowing that he fought for her, emphasising that her emotional and mental well-being remains his top priority.

“4. My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her .. let’s move on ❤️🙏 One love !”

In a separate post, the singer directly criticised Enedah, accusing her of professional misconduct and insensitivity for bringing up his late son during the hearing. Davido described the moment as deeply hurtful, highlighting how it crossed a line of decency and empathy.

“@belachukwu … I disgraced you in the courtroom.. I was teaching you your work you couldn’t even take it and then went on to mention My Son.. like I said in the courtroom I pray you never go through what me and my wife have gone through ever .. and u were still smiling smirking .. u are a wicked human being. UR THE WORST LAWYER EVER I BEAT YOU IN COURT! YOU ARE NOT LEARNED,” he posted.

The custody dispute first attracted public attention after lawyer Maruf Mohammed shared on X that Davido appeared in court in Yaba, Lagos, and became visibly emotional during cross-examination. His emotional display highlighted the stress and tension surrounding the case, drawing sympathy from fans and followers who closely monitored the proceedings.

With this announcement, Davido has made it clear that he is choosing peace over prolonged legal conflict. By stepping away from the courtroom, he prioritises his daughter’s well-being and emotional stability, signalling a desire to move forward and focus on nurturing his relationship with Imade.

The singer’s public explanation sheds light on the complexities of high-profile custody disputes, particularly when compounded by deeply personal grief. By openly sharing his perspective, Davido has not only clarified his intentions but also sent a message about prioritising family, healing, and love above public opinion or legal battles.

In choosing to withdraw, Davido underscores the importance of protecting children from the collateral damage of contentious proceedings, demonstrating that, even in the public eye, emotional intelligence and compassion remain vital.
