Popular Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has opened up about her strong dislike for travelling by road within Nigeria, revealing that she avoids long-distance road trips because of concerns linked to infrastructure and security.
The veteran movie star made the disclosure during a recent interview with media personality VJ Adams, where she spoke candidly about her travel preferences and how they have shaped her lifestyle and social interactions.
According to Bello, while she enjoys road trips when she is outside the country, the situation is quite different when she is in Nigeria. She explained that she deliberately limits road travel locally and instead opts for air or marine transportation whenever possible.
“I prefer water and air transportation. I don’t like road trips. I can do road trips abroad but in Nigeria, no, thank you,” she said.
The actress noted that her stance is not driven by convenience alone but by what she described as infrastructural and security realities within the country. These concerns, she explained, have made her cautious about embarking on long journeys by road, especially those that extend beyond familiar routes.
Shaffy Bello further revealed that her reluctance to travel by road has had a noticeable impact on her social life. According to her, friends and associates have gradually adjusted to her preferences, sometimes choosing not to invite her to events or gatherings that would require lengthy road travel.
She explained that many people around her already assume she will decline such invitations, especially when the destination is far from Lagos.
“I can only consider road trips in Nigeria only if the person I am going to see is extremely dear to me,” Bello said. She added that “everybody knows me now, they go, ‘Don’t invite her, she won’t come.’ Once it is farther than Ibadan, count me out.”
The actress’ comments highlight a broader conversation around road safety and infrastructure in Nigeria, issues that have long influenced travel decisions for many citizens. For several Nigerians, especially public figures who often travel for work or social engagements, concerns about highway conditions and security risks remain a major factor in choosing alternative means of transportation.
