Nollywood actress Moyo Lawal has finally spoken publicly about the controversial leaked intimate video involving her and a former partner, offering emotional details about what transpired and how the experience has reshaped her outlook on life.
The light-skinned movie star, who had stayed off social media for several months following the incident, resurfaced with an emotional video in which she addressed the backlash, the accusations surrounding the tape, and the personal toll the situation took on her. In the video, Lawal explained that she decided to speak out not just for herself, but also for other women facing similar circumstances.
According to the actress, her former partner blamed her for the leak, accusing her of being responsible because she did not publicly acknowledge or post him on her social media platforms. Reacting to this claim, Moyo questioned the logic behind the accusation, pointing out that she had never made a habit of posting romantic partners online.
“In my own case, he told me it was my fault, that this happened because I refused to post about him on my social media. Have I ever posted anyone on my socials?” she asked.
Lawal further revealed that her ex went as far as making emotionally damaging statements, suggesting that no one else would ever want her if he could not have her. She described this as part of a painful pattern she only fully recognized when she attempted to walk away from the relationship.
“You never really know somebody until you threaten to leave them,” she said, reflecting on how events unfolded.
The actress also addressed widespread speculation that she deliberately released the intimate content herself. She firmly rejected that narrative, stressing that she would not allow such an assumption to define her or follow her indefinitely.
“There is a narrative that I posted this intimate part of my life. I refuse to allow this narrative to stick with me forever,” she stated.
Beyond clearing her name, Moyo Lawal explained that her decision to speak out was influenced by messages she received from other women going through similar ordeals. According to her, several young women reached out privately, saying they were being threatened with leaked content and were struggling emotionally.
“Most importantly, I have had a few girls reach out to me who were in similar situations, and they keep telling me that they will off themselves. Some of them are being threatened, and I need them to understand that this shame is not theirs to carry, nor is it their fault,” she said.
The actress used the moment to encourage victims of such situations not to internalize blame or allow fear to silence them. She stressed that exploitation and emotional manipulation should never be normalized or excused.
Reflecting on her public image, Lawal admitted that she had often been able to brush off criticism and personal challenges because of the playful and bold characters she usually portrays on screen. However, she revealed that she has now decided to take a different direction in her life.
“I have always had this ability to overlook things because I have always had such fun characters,” she said, before adding, “I am flipping the switch. I have decided to live a virtuous life.”
She also addressed perceptions around her social media presence, clarifying that what people see online does not necessarily reflect her private reality.
“The worst has already happened to me. Posting thirst traps is nothing; it is different from my reality. I have always lived my life like a married woman whose husband was out,” Lawal explained.
Concluding her message, the actress said she is ready to embrace change and begin a new chapter, both personally and professionally. She expressed optimism about the future and invited her supporters to join her on this journey without harsh judgment.
“I am flipping the switch and looking forward to an entirely new character and adventure, and I hope you’ll go on this adventure with me and not judge me a bit too much,” she said.
Moyo Lawal’s emotional revelation has since sparked conversations online about privacy, consent, and the pressures faced by women in the public eye, with many fans praising her courage for speaking out.
