Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin has stirred widespread reactions online following her controversial comments on the tragic road accident in Ogun State that reportedly claimed the lives of two close friends of British-Nigerian boxing champion, Anthony Joshua. The unfortunate incident occurred during the heavyweight boxer’s recent visit to Nigeria for the festive season.

In a viral video circulating across social media platforms, Anjorin openly blamed Anthony Joshua’s mother, accusing her of allowing her globally celebrated son to travel to his hometown instead of staying in what she described as more secure and elite areas of Lagos. According to the actress, locations such as Lekki, Ikoyi, or Banana Island would have offered better safety and reduced exposure to risk during the crowded holiday period.

The actress argued that high-profile figures like Anthony Joshua should not be allowed to move freely or visit less-secured areas, especially during festive seasons when road traffic, insecurity, and accidents are more prevalent. She stressed that proper planning and safer accommodation choices could have prevented the tragic outcome.

Speaking passionately in the video, Lizzy Anjorin said:

"Anthony Joshua’s mother is to blame. She didn’t put her son in a better place like Lekki or Ikoyi, she watched him go back to his village for the festivities."

She further questioned the decision, stating:

"What reasonable mother would watch her son go back to that kind of place?"

Anjorin continued by emphasizing her belief that elite neighborhoods were more appropriate for a world-famous athlete of Joshua’s status, adding:

"Why couldn’t she put him somewhere like Ikoyi or Banana Island?"

Her remarks have since generated heated debate online, with many Nigerians criticizing her comments as insensitive, while others argue she raised valid concerns about security and safety for international celebrities visiting Nigeria. Supporters of Anthony Joshua’s family insist that visiting one’s hometown is a personal choice rooted in culture and identity, not recklessness.

As discussions continue, the tragedy has once again drawn attention to road safety in Ogun State, celebrity security in Nigeria, and the responsibilities surrounding high-profile visits during festive seasons.
