Nigerian businessman and philanthropist Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has been conferred with a notable traditional title in his home state of Anambra. The recognition celebrates his contributions to business, philanthropy, and the promotion of Igbo culture.
In a statement shared on Sunday, Obi Cubana revealed that he was awarded the chieftaincy title Ife-Igbo-Ji-Ka-Mba by the Enugwu-Ukwu na Umunri Traditional Council. The colourful ceremony took place on Saturday in Enugwu-Ukwu and drew business leaders, community figures, and prominent personalities from various sectors.
The title, which translates roughly as “the pride of the Igbo before the world,” is reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to enterprise, community development, and cultural advancement. It is widely regarded as one of the most respected honours in the region.
Igwe Ralph Obumneme Ekpe, the traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu na Umunri, personally presented the title to Obi Cubana, praising the entrepreneur for his leadership, business vision, and commitment to social impact. “Obi Cubana’s dedication to advancing enterprise, culture, and community development has brought honour to Ndi Igbo both locally and globally,” the monarch said.
Obi Cubana, chairman of the Cubana Group, expressed gratitude for the recognition and said the title would inspire him to continue contributing positively to his community. “The honour will inspire me to positively represent Igbo heritage both within Nigeria and internationally,” he said.
The ceremony attracted a diverse group of guests from sectors including banking, oil and gas, hospitality, and real estate. Community leaders, business executives, and cultural figures came together to celebrate Obi Cubana’s achievements, underscoring the importance of the occasion.
Over the years, Obi Cubana has built a reputation as a leading figure in Nigeria’s hospitality and entertainment industries. He is known not only for his entrepreneurial success but also for his philanthropic contributions, particularly in education, healthcare, and social welfare. The chieftaincy title further recognises his role as a cultural ambassador for the Igbo people, highlighting the value of blending professional excellence with social responsibility.
“This recognition is a reminder that our work in business and community development can leave a lasting impact beyond material success,” Obi Cubana added.
By conferring the title, the Enugwu-Ukwu na Umunri Traditional Council honoured an individual whose efforts reflect both cultural pride and national significance. Obi Cubana’s achievements illustrate how modern entrepreneurship and traditional values can coexist, providing inspiration for the younger generation of Nigerians.
The chieftaincy is also expected to strengthen Obi Cubana’s influence as a bridge between contemporary business practices and the preservation of Igbo heritage. With his ongoing expansion of ventures and charitable initiatives, the title reinforces his role as a leader committed to promoting culture, empowering communities, and driving excellence.
