Nollywood filmmaker and actor Stanley Amandi has reportedly been arrested alongside several military officers and civilians over an alleged plot to violently overthrow the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The development, which has drawn significant public attention, was first reported by online newspaper Premium Times, marking the first time details of Amandi’s alleged involvement have been made public.

Amandi, who is a director and former chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), was said to have been in custody since September 2025.

According to reports, authorities linked him to a group of individuals accused of planning a coup against the current government.

The allegations suggest that the group intended to destabilize the administration through coordinated actions involving both military personnel and civilians.

Government sources familiar with the investigation alleged that Amandi was recruited by the suspected plotters to act as a propagandist. His role, according to the claims, would have involved shaping public narratives and influencing opinion in favor of the planned takeover.

The alleged plot was also said to include plans targeting top government officials, though authorities have continued to handle the matter with caution while legal procedures unfold.

The Defence Headquarters confirmed that investigations into the alleged plan to illegally oust the Tinubu administration have been concluded. In an official statement, the military disclosed that 16 officers found to be implicated would face arraignment before military judicial panels.

The statement noted that the findings of the probe had been forwarded to the appropriate superior authorities in line with existing regulations.

According to the Defence Headquarters, the investigation was described as comprehensive, covering all relevant circumstances surrounding the actions of the personnel involved.

The military emphasized its commitment to upholding discipline and professionalism, stating that any conduct inconsistent with the ethics and values of the Armed Forces of Nigeria would not be tolerated.

The statement further explained that several officers were identified as having serious allegations linked to attempts to undermine the government.

The Armed Forces reiterated that such actions contradict the principles guiding military service and would be addressed through established legal and disciplinary channels.

The news of Amandi’s alleged involvement has sparked reactions across the entertainment industry and the public, with many expressing surprise at the development.

As a known figure in Nollywood and a former AGN leader in Enugu State, his reported arrest has added a layer of intrigue to an already sensitive national issue.

While investigations have reportedly been completed, observers note that legal proceedings are expected to clarify the extent of each suspect’s involvement.

Authorities have not released full details, and the case continues to unfold as the accused individuals prepare to face military and possibly civilian judicial processes.

The situation highlights ongoing concerns about national security and the importance of maintaining stability within both civilian and military institutions.

As Nigerians await further updates, attention remains focused on the judicial process and the outcomes that will follow.
