The Lagos State Police Command has formally summoned Pastor Chris Okafor, Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and other offences capable of disturbing public peace.

According to the police, Okafor has been served an official invitation and is expected to report to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID by 10 a.m. on Monday.

Confirming the development on Sunday, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Adebisi explained that the move followed a directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, instructing a thorough investigation into the cleric’s activities.

“The Lagos State Police Command has invited Pastor Chris Okafor, Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, in connection with allegations of multiple rape, other sexual offences, and several other conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and breakdown of law and order in the State,” Adebisi said.

She added that the invitation stems from multiple complaints concerning alleged sexual misconduct and other acts considered capable of triggering societal unrest.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (DC SCID) to carry out a thorough investigation into the several criminal allegations against Pastor Chris Okafor.

“The Pastor has been duly served with an invitation letter through his legal representative and is expected to cooperate fully with the Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, in the ongoing investigation into the allegations of capital offences and other serious crimes against him,” the statement continued.

Authorities emphasised that adequate security arrangements have been made to protect alleged victims and encouraged them to come forward to provide statements. Investigations at SCID, Panti, have already commenced, and the identities of victims and witnesses will be safeguarded throughout the process.

Members of the public with relevant information or evidence were also urged to assist either via SCID or the Police Public Relations Department. The police reiterated that the investigation would be conducted professionally and impartially.

“The Lagos State Police Command is committed to maintaining law and order, public peace, safety, and ensuring that all allegations of criminal acts against anyone, no matter how highly placed or lowly placed, are discreetly investigated according to law… Justice must prevail in the whole episode,” Adebisi stated.

The investigation follows earlier reports that CP Jimoh had instructed the SCID to probe serious claims against Okafor after multiple allegations circulated online, accusing him of sexual misconduct and other criminal activities.

The controversy erupted in mid-December 2025 after Nollywood actress Doris Ogala shared several Instagram videos on December 14, alleging she was in a sexual relationship with the pastor from 2017 for approximately nine years. Ogala accused him of failing to honour promises of marriage, sharing explicit material, and contributing to the collapse of her previous marriage.

In response to the growing public scrutiny, Pastor Okafor addressed his congregation on New Year’s Day, kneeling at the pulpit to apologise for past “mistakes” and seeking forgiveness. However, he did not directly address the specific allegations raised against him.

The scandal has reportedly drawn the attention of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, which is reportedly considering disciplinary measures. Meanwhile, Okafor has stepped aside from his pastoral duties as investigations continue and public attention remains intense.

The Lagos Police’s summoning of Pastor Chris Okafor marks a significant step in the probe, underscoring the force’s commitment to upholding law and order while ensuring that allegations against high-profile figures are treated with seriousness and transparency.
