Nollywood actor Jamiu Azeez has finally reacted to widespread reports and online speculations suggesting that he has converted from Islam to Christianity. The actor addressed the controversy after a viral video showed him attending a White Garment Church service during the New Year crossover night.
The video, which circulated widely across social media platforms, captured the Yoruba movie star dressed in a white robe and holding a candle while participating in the church service. The sight quickly generated mixed reactions, with many Christians openly welcoming him into the Christian faith, while others questioned his religious stance.
Reacting to the growing assumptions, Jamiu Azeez took to his Instagram page to express his frustration over what he described as unnecessary intrusion into his personal life. The actor emphasized that people were too quick to draw conclusions without facts, stressing that he never publicly announced a religious conversion.
According to Jamiu, the situation reflects a troubling culture where individuals feel entitled to dictate how others should live their lives.
“It’s only in Nigeria that people are so bothered about another person’s life.
Imagine telling a man in his 40s how to live his life,” he wrote.
The actor further revealed that the backlash has been intense, especially on Facebook blogs, where users flooded comment sections with harsh remarks. He also disclosed that some critics went as far as sending him direct messages to insult and attack him personally.
“I posted myself in a White Garment on the Cross Over night, and, man, the comments I have been reading in blogs, especially on Facebook, are crãzy.
Some even came to my DM to drag me, like bro, you will not be accountable for my life, oo,” he stated.
Jamiu made it clear that his spiritual journey is a personal matter and that he reserves the right to practice any religion of his choice without public pressure or judgment.
“I can choose to practice any religion, and that should not be anyone’s problem.
I never even come out to say I have converted oo.
Una wan kpai me,” he added.
Ending his statement with sarcasm, the actor hinted at how unpredictable public reactions can be by saying, “No worry, I go wear Babalowo cloth tomorrow.”
His response has since reignited conversations around religious freedom, celebrity privacy, and the obsession with personal choices in Nigeria’s social media space.
