Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has been taken into custody following allegations of online misconduct involving fellow actress Mercy Johnson‑Okojie. The arrest reportedly took place at Okorie’s Lagos residence, after which she spent the night at Yaba Police Station (Yaba Panti) due to the unavailability of an immediate flight to Abuja. Authorities later placed her on a 6 a.m. flight to the capital to appear before court over the cybercrime case.
Filmmaker Seun Oloketuyi shared the update on Instagram, revealing that Okorie spent the night at Yaba Police Station (Yaba Panti) because no immediate flight to Abuja was available after her arrest. She was later placed on a 6 a.m. flight to the nation’s capital to face court proceedings.
Seun Oloketuyi stated: “Angela Okorie was arrested yesterday at her residence in Lagos by the Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Centre, Abuja. She spent the night at Yaba Panti because there was no available flight to Abuja at the time of her arrest. She was put on a 6am flight to Abuja this morning and is being taken there to face court proceedings connected to the cybercrime matter involving Mercy Johnson”.
The arrest follows a prolonged and highly publicized online feud between Angela Okorie and Mercy Johnson, which escalated over the past year. The dispute reportedly involved heated social media exchanges, personal accusations, and public disagreements that drew widespread attention from fans and industry insiders.
Angela Okorie had previously made statements critical of Mercy Johnson, which intensified the online clash. The situation became more complicated when actress Regina Daniels, married to Senator Ned Nwoko and closely associated with Mercy Johnson, entered the discussion, leading to further public arguments.
Despite issuing a public apology acknowledging her comments were emotionally driven, Angela Okorie admitted that her words had caused harm. She specifically apologized to Mercy Johnson and Ned Nwoko, expressing regret for her role in escalating tensions. Although this apology aimed to bring peace, the online conflict lingered, eventually drawing the attention of cybercrime authorities.
As Angela Okorie faces legal proceedings in Abuja, the case underscores the potential consequences of social media disputes among public figures. It also highlights the reach of Nigeria’s cybercrime laws, serving as a cautionary example for celebrities navigating online platforms. The outcome of the case is expected to be closely followed across the Nigerian entertainment industry.
