A Nigerian man has ignited widespread debate online after asserting that a man who financially provides for his partner has the right to dictate her lifestyle and personal decisions. The comments, shared in a viral video on X (formerly Twitter) by @ChukEricE, have stirred strong reactions from social media users across the globe.
In the video, the man expressed concern that men are becoming “too soft” in contemporary relationships.
He stated; “If I am taking care of you as a woman, paying your bills, and making sure every form of stress in your life is non-existent, I will control you.”
He went further to suggest that women should align their choices with their partner’s preferences, including how they dress, the friends they keep, and the level of personal privacy they maintain. He emphasized that boundaries are often misunderstood, noting that they are sometimes “wrongly labeled as insecurity."
The man also criticized modern discussions around “red flags,” social media trends, and TikTok relationship advice, claiming these factors have diminished men’s confidence and authority in relationships.
He added, “I will check your phone because there is no privacy. If you have nothing to hide, there is nothing to hide. I will tell you the friends I don’t want you to keep, and if you don’t want to abide by my principles, nobody is forcing you to stay in the relationship.”
According to him, a serious relationship requires total alignment with a man’s principles, and anyone uncomfortable with this dynamic should feel free to leave.
The post quickly generated heated discussions online. While some men sided with his perspective, a large number of women strongly opposed it. One user commented, “So because he pays bills, I have no privacy and no freedom?” Another wrote, “No amount of money should give someone the right to dictate how I live.”
This viral video has reignited debates around financial control, autonomy, and boundaries in modern relationships, highlighting a clash between traditional expectations and evolving views on personal freedom.
