Nollywood actor and producer Timini Egbuson has officially released the trailer for his upcoming romantic drama, Love and New Notes, ahead of its nationwide cinema debut scheduled for February 13. The film, which blends romance with historical drama, is already generating buzz following the release of its visually rich and emotionally charged teaser.
Taking to Instagram to announce the trailer, Timini teased audiences with hints of mystery and passion woven into the story. “Every house has its secrets…and love always finds a way out. Love & New Notes in cinemas nationwide February 13,” he wrote. He added, “Timini Egbuson @_timini presents Love & New Notes,” signalling his hands-on involvement in bringing the project to life.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Kayode Kasum, Love and New Notes is set against the vibrant yet turbulent backdrop of Lagos in 1984. The film explores love, ambition, sacrifice, and human connection during a period of economic uncertainty triggered by a sudden government-mandated currency change. This policy shift, which forces citizens to exchange old banknotes for new ones within a limited timeframe, becomes a powerful catalyst for the events that unfold in the story.
At the centre of the narrative is Boma, played by Timini Egbuson, a determined but struggling young man trying to find his footing in a city defined by both opportunity and hardship. As Lagos grapples with the ripple effects of the currency reform, Boma’s personal life becomes entangled in a web of emotional decisions, romantic conflicts, and moral dilemmas that test his resilience and values.
The trailer offers glimpses into a layered storyline filled with intense emotions, tender romantic moments, and suspenseful twists. From intimate conversations to high-stakes confrontations, Love and New Notes promises to deliver a compelling mix of romance and drama while reflecting the social realities of the era. The film also captures the aesthetics of 1980s Lagos, with detailed costumes, production design, and music that evoke nostalgia and authenticity.
Backing Timini in this cinematic journey is an ensemble cast featuring Sophie Alakija, Odunlade Adekola, Eniola Badmus, and Kamo State, among others. Each cast member brings depth to their roles, contributing to a story that examines relationships across different social classes and personal circumstances. The diverse cast further strengthens the film’s appeal, combining seasoned performers with contemporary screen favourites.
Produced by Muyi Banti, Love and New Notes marks another significant step in Timini Egbuson’s evolving career as both an actor and a producer. The project follows his earlier production credit on the romantic drama Reel Love, which showcased his interest in emotionally driven storytelling and character-focused narratives. With this new release, Timini continues to position himself as a creative force interested in stories that balance entertainment with substance.
Beyond its romantic storyline, the film also reflects on how external pressures—such as economic policies and societal expectations—can shape personal choices and relationships. By anchoring the story in a real historical moment, Love and New Notes offers audiences not just a love story, but a window into how ordinary lives are affected by extraordinary circumstances.
With its February 13 release date placing it perfectly in the Valentine’s season, Love and New Notes is poised to attract couples, romance lovers, and Nollywood enthusiasts alike. As anticipation builds, the trailer suggests a film that is heartfelt, thought-provoking, and rich in emotional payoff, setting the stage for what could be one of the standout romantic dramas of the year.
