Nigeria’s music industry recorded a strong showing at the 9th edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held on Sunday night in Lagos, as top artistes including Burna Boy, Rema, Yemi Alade, Shallipopi, Phyno, Qing Madi and Chella emerged winners across major categories.


The star-studded ceremony celebrated excellence in African music, drawing nominees and winners from across the continent. Nigerian acts stood out prominently, clinching some of the most coveted honours of the night and reaffirming the country’s influence on the African and global music scene.


Rema was one of the biggest winners at the event, taking home three awards. The global Afrobeats star won Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African Artiste in RnB & Soul, further cementing his status as one of Africa’s most dominant contemporary acts.


Burna Boy also added another major accolade to his career, winning Album of the Year for his project No Sign of Weakness. The Grammy-winning singer’s victory highlighted his continued consistency and impact on African music.


Yemi Alade earned recognition for her contribution to film and television, winning Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary for her song You Are, featured in the animated series Iyanu.


Shallipopi enjoyed a memorable night as well, as his hit track Laho won Song of the Year. He also secured the award for Best African Collaboration alongside Burna Boy for the same song.


Veteran rapper Phyno emerged winner in the Best African Artiste in African Hip-Hop category, while fast-rising singer Chella was named African Fans’ Favourite. Qing Madi clinched the Most Promising Artiste of the Year award, beating a competitive list of emerging talents from across the continent.
