Former Big Brother Naija housemate Queen Mercy Atang has shared an emotional account of a frightening incident in her home after the POP ceiling in her living room suddenly caved in, narrowly missing members of her family.
The reality TV star took to social media to recount the ordeal, describing how the ceiling collapse could have resulted in serious injuries or worse. According to Queen, her younger sister and nanny were inside the living room at the time of the incident. The two were reportedly sewing when the ceiling gave way, forcing them to flee the room in panic.
Queen explained that she was not present in the living room when the incident occurred. Instead, she was resting in her room after an exhausting night. She revealed that her mother rushed in to inform her of what had happened, triggering immediate fear and anxiety.
“I was very scared when my mum came to tell me,” Queen shared. “But the moment I heard that my sister and nanny were safe, my blood pressure immediately dropped.”
The former beauty queen further disclosed that this was not the first time such an incident had occurred in her home. Just weeks earlier, a similar collapse reportedly happened in her garage, raising concerns about the structural integrity of the property.
Reflecting on the hours leading up to the incident, Queen explained that she had returned home very late after working through the night. She had been at the airport picking up a close friend who had just arrived in Nigeria for a Guinness World Record attempt. Due to tight timelines, the project required overnight preparations and planning.
“I got home around 4 a.m. after working all night,” she said. “I even told my workers to rest in the sitting room and leave in the morning. One of them insisted on going home, while I convinced the other to stay back because it wasn’t safe to be outside at night.”
By early morning, the worker Queen had encouraged to stay had already left. However, her younger sister and nanny remained awake in the living room, focused on sewing. Under normal circumstances, Queen noted, they would have slept there after finishing their work.
“I keep thanking God they didn’t sleep off there today,” she said. “They were still sewing when the POP ceiling suddenly collapsed. They literally had to run to save their lives.”
Queen revealed that she had only just settled down to sleep when her mother broke the news. Her first concern was locating her loved ones to confirm their safety.
“The first question I asked was where my sister and nanny were,” she said. “When my mum told me they were upstairs, I immediately felt relieved.”
Beyond the emotional shock, Queen admitted that the incident has added pressure to an already demanding period in her life. She is currently coordinating a Guinness World Record project for her friend, which is scheduled to begin later this week.
“A few weeks ago, it was my garage ceiling. Now it’s my living room,” she said. “At the same time, I’m planning a major project that starts this Friday. My mind is everywhere right now—trying to keep my family safe while making sure this event is successful.”
Despite the scare, Queen ended her account on a note of gratitude, acknowledging what she believes was divine protection over her household.
“I am deeply thankful to God,” she said. “His love and protection over my family mean everything to me. I’m truly grateful.”
The incident has since drawn concern and support from fans, many of whom expressed relief that no lives were lost and urged the reality star to prioritize her family’s safety moving forward.
