The Nigeria Police Force has released Nollywood actress Doris Ogala after she was rearrested in Abuja and transferred to Lagos by officers from the Zone 2 Command, following days of controversy surrounding her dispute with Pastor Chris Okafor.

Ogala was reportedly picked up shortly after being granted bail in Abuja and was flown to Lagos by a police team.

The situation became tense during the transfer, with sources alleging that her lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, was assaulted by officers while attempting to document the arrest process. His mobile phones were also seized during the incident.

Upon arrival in Lagos, efforts were made to secure the actress’ release. A coordinator of the Take It Back Movement (TIB), Jamiu Towolawi, popularly known as Jharmo, intervened and stood as surety for Ogala, leading to her eventual release from police custody.

Following her release, Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, also known as Grace Nation Liberation City, reportedly met with the actress at the Zone 2 Command in Onikan, Lagos.

According to sources familiar with the meeting, the cleric appealed to Ogala to allow peace to prevail and urged reconciliation between both parties.

Eyewitness accounts claimed that the pastor knelt before the actress while pleading for an end to the dispute, describing the situation as one that had escalated beyond expectations.

The meeting reportedly lasted close to an hour and was held behind closed doors, with no third parties present.

After the reconciliation talks, the police released Ogala on what was described as “health grounds,” with the Take It Back Movement coordinator serving as her surety.

The police also returned the mobile phones seized from Ogala and her lawyer. However, a request that a video recording of the arrest be deleted was reportedly rejected before the actress was allowed to leave.

The incident stems from an ongoing legal and personal dispute between Ogala and Pastor Okafor over an alleged breach of a promise to marry.

The controversy intensified over the weekend when the actress was arrested during a live-streamed interview, a moment that played out in real time as viewers watched the police arrive at her residence.

Days earlier, Ogala had accused the cleric of reneging on a promise to marry her, a claim she formalised through her legal representatives, Synergy Law Partners. In a demand letter dated December 16, 2025, her lawyers sought ₦1 billion in aggravated damages, citing emotional distress, reputational harm, and financial losses.

According to the letter, the actress alleged that the relationship began in 2017 and included repeated assurances of marriage, introductions to family members, and joint appearances at family events.

She also claimed to have entrusted the pastor with ₦45 million and granted him access to her finances based on the alleged promise.

While acknowledging that marriage cannot be legally enforced, her lawyers argued that Nigerian law provides remedies for breach of promise and warned that legal action would follow if the demands were not met within 21 days.

As of the time of reporting, neither the police nor Pastor Okafor has issued an official public statement on the matter, while Ogala has regained her freedom as investigations continue.
