Senator Ned Nwoko has responded to a disturbing allegation circulating online in which an unidentified man claimed the lawmaker offered him ₦5 million to arrange the assassination of actress Regina Daniels.
The sensational accusation, which went viral across social media platforms on Wednesday, triggered widespread outrage and calls for an investigation.
In a strongly worded statement released through his official X account, Nwoko’s communications team dismissed the allegation as part of a coordinated campaign of cyberstalking, online harassment and defamation targeted at the senator.
According to the statement, those behind the claim are attempting to fabricate a false narrative for personal and ulterior motives.
“Our attention has been drawn to a renewed pattern of online harassment, cyberstalking and coordinated defamatory videos and publications targeted at Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko.
These actions appear calculated to create a false narrative of persecution in order to serve ulterior motives,” the statement said.
The senator stressed that he is fully focused on his legislative, developmental and business responsibilities and has no interest in online drama or manufactured controversies.
However, due to the gravity of the allegation, the statement noted that such claims cannot be ignored or treated lightly.
“Senator Ned is fully engaged in his legislative, developmental and business responsibilities and maintains no interest whatsoever in online distractions or fabricated drama.
However, when grave allegations are made, they must be addressed in accordance with the law, not through misinformation or emotional manipulation,” his team added.
Nwoko also cautioned against what he described as a troubling culture of weaponizing public sympathy and shielding wrongdoing. According to him, the trend of creating falsehoods for online attention threatens national values and public trust.
“We must caution the public that the growing culture of supporting deviant conduct, shielding wrongdoers and attempting to weaponize public sympathy is damaging to our national values.
Today, falsehood may be deployed against one individual; tomorrow, it may be directed at anyone,” the statement warned.
Following the viral video, the senator has reportedly instructed his legal team to petition top security agencies, including the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, and the Cyber Crime Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, demanding a full investigation. His team emphasized that digital footprints would be traced to ensure accountability.
“Accordingly, Senator Ned has instructed his lawyer to file a petition… to investigate and prosecute those responsible for ongoing cyber harassment and criminal defamation. The relevant digital footprints will be traced and lawful action will be pursued,” the statement read.
In an additional twist, the senator’s team urged the United States and the United Kingdom to be wary of what it described as attempts to manufacture crisis around a stable family structure for the purpose of gaining undue advantage, including possible asylum claims.
Nwoko urged Nigerians to disregard the viral allegation and allow due process to take its full course, noting that he remains committed to dignity, responsibility and the rule of law.
The viral claim continues to generate discussions, but the senator’s legal move has now shifted the matter from social media speculation to formal investigation by security agencies.
