Nigerian music icon Peter Okoye has finally spoken out following the devastating road accident involving world-renowned heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua, an incident that has thrown fans and celebrities alike into deep mourning.
According to earlier reports by Kemi Filani, the tragic accident occurred on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, specifically in the Makun area of Ogun State. Anthony Joshua was said to be traveling in a Lexus SUV with registration number KRD 850 HN when the vehicle reportedly collided with a stationary truck. While the boxing champion sustained only minor injuries, the crash tragically claimed the lives of two occupants, identified as his close associates, Latz and Sina, who reportedly died on the spot.
Reacting to the heartbreaking development via his Instagram page, Peter Okoye expressed deep shock and sorrow, describing the incident as emotionally devastating. The former Psquare star revealed that the loss hit him personally, as he struggled to come to terms with the sudden deaths of Joshua’s friends.
“This accident has shattered me completely. Latz & Sina, I can’t believe you’re gone. Why?” he wrote.
Sending words of encouragement to the boxing champion, Peter added:
“To my brother @Anthonyjoshua, my heart breaks for you. Latz & Sina will forever live in our memories and in the love they left behind.”
Despite the tragedy, the singer expressed gratitude that Joshua survived the accident, acknowledging divine intervention while offering prayers for strength and healing.
“Even in the middle of this storm, we are grateful to God for sparing your life. May He comfort you, guide you, and help you carry their legacy with pride and strength. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Stay strong, brother.”
Meanwhile, popular comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun (AY) also weighed in on the tragic incident, lamenting the poor state of Nigerian roads and the recurring loss of lives due to negligence. He described the situation as deeply painful, noting that a Nigerian who has proudly represented the country on the global stage returned home only to experience such a heartbreaking loss.
AY called on the government to prioritize road safety, proper enforcement of traffic laws, functional emergency response systems, and policies that genuinely value human life.
