Reality TV star and media personality Tacha Akide has sparked fresh debate online after urging men to step up their game when approaching women.

The outspoken celebrity issued the advice while reacting to a trending incident involving a lady who criticised a man for refusing to pay for her meal after collecting her phone number at a restaurant.

Tacha, who shared her opinion via Instagram, made it clear that men who are genuinely interested in a woman must show effort from the onset.

According to her, the lady in the viral video was not wrong for expecting the man to pay for her food after he approached her. She stressed that when a man chooses to initiate contact, courtesy demands that he makes a good first impression.

She stated that simple gestures matter, adding that a man trying to woo a woman should not only be prepared to pay for his meal but also take care of hers. Tacha argued that it is a basic principle of showing interest and seriousness, especially during the first meeting.

In her words, “Earlier, a lady blasted a man who collected her number at a restaurant, but failed to pay for her food. Because as a man, you need to be able to impress.

If you’re not going to impress, I’m sorry, just keep your distance. For this girl to be at the restaurant, obviously she does have cash to pay for her food. And if you’re going to approach her, ask for her number, you should be able to at least pay for your own food and pay for her own food. And you must do it now.”

Tacha went on to compare human courtship behaviour to what is seen in the animal kingdom. She gave examples of male animals who go to great lengths to attract the female, referencing wildlife documentaries as proof that even animals understand the importance of making an impression.

She said, “Go and watch Nat Geo Wilde. You’re going to see the bird bringing food to the female bird, performing. Dancing with his friends, and if she’s not impressed enough, she’s going to fly off. So if birds can clock it, how about you? How can you not clock it?”

The former Big Brother Naija star further emphasised her personal standards when being approached in public. She noted that as a two-time Guinness World Record holder, she expects men to come correct if they choose to start a conversation with her.

“If you see me at a restaurant or you see me at a club as a Guinness World Record holder two times. If you’re not going to buy me a bottle, I’m sorry. Don’t come close to me,” she added.

Tacha’s remarks have since drawn mixed reactions across social media. While some support her view that men should make an effort when approaching women, others argue that generosity should not be a requirement for conversation.

Despite the debate, Tacha maintains her stance and insists that first impressions matter—especially when a man is trying to win a woman’s attention.
