Nollywood star Mo Bimpe has announced the beginning of a major new chapter in her filmmaking career, expressing deep gratitude to her husband, Lateef Adedimeji, and the Governor of Ekiti State for making her latest project a reality.
In an emotional Instagram post, the actress explained that she had carried overwhelming feelings leading up to the start of production. She revealed that the forthcoming film is deeply personal because it is rooted in her own heritage—the Kiriji War, known as the longest war in West African history and a significant part of Ekiti’s cultural identity.
According to her, the project has involved an extensive 11-month process: meetings with the governor, intensive research, script development, story building, nights of planning, location scouting, set construction, and complex pre-production efforts. Despite the massive scale and demanding requirements, she said the project kept moving forward through divine guidance.
Mo Bimpe also shared that years ago she had been cast in another Kiriji War film, but the production never materialized. Looking back now, she believes the setback was preparation for something bigger—this time not only as an actress but also as a producer.
She expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Ekiti State Governor for trusting her with such a significant cultural story and for providing unwavering support. She also celebrated her husband, Lateef Adedimeji, for being her “backbone,” noting that his encouragement allowed her to take on the monumental project.
The actress further praised director Kayode Kasum and extended gratitude to her cast and crew for their commitment as filming officially kicks off.
Mo Bimpe shared her excitement with the caption:
“Today, a new journey begins.
I’ve held so many emotions in my heart, not knowing where to start… because this moment is bigger than me.
When we received the call to shoot this project, I was completely overwhelmed, not just because it’s work, but because it is my story – the story of my state, not just because I’m from Ekiti, but because it involves my family. It is the longest war in West African history (the Kiriji War).
I grew up reading about this war. I never imagined that one day, I would stand behind the camera to bring it to life.
My Dad even wrote a book about it; little did I know that the same girl who read those pages would one day be producing this film. God is truly great.
From meeting with the Governor to intense research, script conferences, story building, and long nights of planning, location scouting, set construction, and months of intense pre-production.
We’ve been on this for 11 months but we have finally arrived at Day 1 of a project that once felt IMPOSSIBLE! The scale, the budget, the requirements, everything looked like a mountain but God keeps proving Himself.
Years ago, I was called to feature in a Kriji war production & I was so excited, but the project never happened till now. I just didn’t hear from the producers anymore. And I was sad. Little did I know God was saving the bigger version for me, not just as an actress, but as a producer. Wow
To my Governor, thank you for believing in me, for trusting us with this big vision, and for your massive support. We’re deeply grateful.
To my husband @adedimejilateef my partner, my backbone. Thank you for giving me wings, for sharing this vision with me, & for standing with me every step of the way. I’m blessed to be on this journey with you as a co-producer & my muse. I can’t wait for the next exploits we will create together, my baby.
To my brilliant Director, @kayodekasum, I don’t have the right words, but you’re indeed amazing and the best choice for this project!
To my cast & crew, thank you for your passion, your brilliance, your commitment. This journey will be long, but it will be worth every second.
