Nigerian comedian I Go Save has sparked major conversation online after publicly criticizing Nigerians who are celebrating the cancellation of Burna Boy’s U.S. shows, describing their reactions as nothing short of “witchcraft.”
The Grammy-winning Afro-fusion superstar recently cancelled his shows in Chicago and Minneapolis, with reports attributing the decision to poor ticket sales. These cancellations come only weeks after Burna Boy went viral for halting his performance to address a female fan he believed was sleeping in the crowd. That incident fueled widespread controversy and led to some Nigerians in the U.S. calling for a boycott of his concerts.
However, while many critics saw the cancellation as a justified consequence of Burna Boy’s recent actions, I Go Save strongly disagreed. Taking to his Instagram stories, the comedian condemned the celebratory reactions from some Nigerians, insisting that such behavior reflects a deeper problem within society.
He blasted the negativity targeted at fellow Nigerians in moments of difficulty, stating that rejoicing over someone’s professional setback is beyond criticism and borders on malicious intent. According to him, constructive criticism is acceptable, but jubilating over a canceled show is unacceptable. He wrote:
“This thing una dey do no be criticism… na witchcraft. How person show cancel and una dey happy? You no get love for your fellow human being?”
I Go Save argued that while Burna Boy may have made mistakes, the level of excitement around his challenges is disturbing and shows a lack of unity among Nigerians. The comedian emphasized that the world already criticizes Africans enough, and internal hostility only makes things worse.
His comments have since stirred debate on social media, with some supporting his stance and others insisting that public figures like Burna Boy must take responsibility for their actions.
The controversy continues to spark discussions on celebrity accountability, fan culture, and the tendency among Nigerians to “bring down their own.”
