The Lagos Fringe Festival is set to make a vibrant return for its 8th edition, running from November 18–23, 2025, at Freedom Park, Lagos. This year’s theme, “Hybrid Identities: Merging Boundaries,” challenges artists and filmmakers to explore where culture, technology, and creativity intersect in a rapidly evolving world.
The 2025 edition marks a significant milestone for the festival, as it introduces its first-ever Lagos Fringe Film Awards, celebrating excellence, innovation, and new voices in African and diaspora filmmaking.
At the core of this year’s programming is the Lagos Fringe Ideas-Xchange, a creative forum designed to foster collaboration among industry professionals.
The event will feature panel discussions, live showcases, and artist talks that address topics such as artificial intelligence in storytelling, sustainable production practices, and the role of cross-border collaboration in Africa’s growing creative economy.
The festival will also host a Creative Tech Workshop Series, spotlighting the intersection of art and innovation.
Sessions include the AI and Film Workshop by Olamide Jolaoso, which explores how artificial intelligence is transforming film production and storytelling. Another highlight is Digital Craft: A 3D Printing Masterclass by Film Anatomie, where participants will learn how 3D printing is revolutionising prop, costume, and set design.
The AI and Fashion Workshop by AIStudio.Ng will take a futuristic look at how machine learning is influencing global fashion design and digital fabrics.
The Visual Arts Exhibition will showcase a collection of works from both emerging and established artists, exploring the Hybrid Identities theme through painting, sculpture, photography, and digital installations. This exhibition aims to capture the evolving relationship between self, culture, and technology.
Film lovers can look forward to the Fringe Film Showcase, featuring short films, documentaries, and experimental works from across Africa and the diaspora.
The selection will celebrate narratives centered on identity, innovation, and resilience, while giving filmmakers a chance to connect with audiences and peers in an intimate environment.
A major highlight of this year’s edition is the inaugural Lagos Fringe Film Awards, hosted by Pawstudios Africa.
The awards will honour outstanding contributions in categories including Best Short Film, Best Film with Female Representation, Best African Story, Best Experimental Film, and the Audience Choice Award. This initiative aims to recognise fresh perspectives and amplify African creativity on the global stage.
Beyond film and art, the festival will feature theatre performances, dance showcases, and music nights, blending culture, movement, and innovation.
The Fringe Market will offer a lively space for artisans, designers, and entrepreneurs to showcase sustainable crafts, fashion, and art collectibles, while nightly events such as the Y2K Party will bring together creatives in a spirited celebration of Lagos’ cultural diversity.
Now in its eighth year, the Lagos Fringe Festival continues to serve as a creative hub for experimentation, diversity, and cultural exchange. By merging tradition with technology, this year’s edition reaffirms Lagos as Africa’s heartbeat of artistic innovation a place where creativity meets possibility.
