Tensions flared at a pre-pageant ceremony for the upcoming Miss Universe 2025 competition after a heated confrontation between Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, and Nawat Itsaragrisil, director of Miss Universe Thailand, led to a mass walkout by several contestants.
The incident occurred during Nawat’s address to the gathered contestants, where he allegedly criticized Bosch for not sharing enough promotional content about the pageant on her social media platforms. Witnesses say the situation quickly escalated when Bosch attempted to defend herself, prompting Nawat to threaten disqualification for anyone who sided with her.
In a viral video from the event, Bosch can be seen leaving the hall while contestants from other countries followed her in solidarity, a symbolic act that has since drawn global attention.
Visibly emotional as she addressed supporters outside the venue, Bosch described the ordeal as “disrespectful” and “undermining” to women.
“As a country, you have all my respect. I truly love Thailand. I respect all of you. You are amazing people. But what your director did is not respectful,” she stated.
“He called me dumb because he had problems with the organisation. I think that is not fair because I am here and do everything. I do not mess with anyone. I am just trying to be kind. And he just struck me and said to me to shut up and other different things. I think the world needs to see this because we are empowered women. This is a platform for our voice.”
Her stance was supported by Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, who also chose to leave the event.
“This is about women’s rights,” Theilvig declared. “This is not how things should be handled. To trash another girl is beyond disrespectful… That’s why I’m taking my coat and I’m walking out.”
Footage from the altercation also captured Nawat referring to Bosch as a “dumbhead” for allegedly following her national director’s instructions.
Following the backlash, Nawat took to Instagram to issue an apology, blaming his outburst on the stress of coordinating the international event.
“I think you can understand that the pressure is a lot. I am human. I cannot control myself sometimes. By the way, I do not intend to harm anyone. I respect all of you. I have to say I am sorry it happened,” he said. “I apologise to everyone who felt uncomfortable with what happened. I am so sorry.”
In response, Miss Universe Organisation President Raul Rocha condemned the incident, stating that Nawat had “forgotten the true meaning of what it means to be a genuine host.” Rocha further accused him of having “humiliated, insulted and showed a lack of respect” to Bosch, describing it as a “serious abuse” for calling security to “intimidate a defenceless woman.”
The 74th Miss Universe pageant is set to take place on November 21, 2025, at the Impact Challenger Hall in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, Thailand.
