The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has officially lifted the suspension imposed on veteran Nollywood actress Shirley Igwe, allowing her to resume her professional engagements following a careful review of the disciplinary measures taken against her.

The suspension, which stemmed from an incident of violent conduct reported on a Lagos movie set on July 19, 2025, had temporarily sidelined the actress from filming and other guild activities.

In a statement released by Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas, the National President of the AGN, the National Executive Council (NEC) confirmed that Shirley Igwe has been reinstated after a comprehensive evaluation of her case. The decision reflects the Guild’s commitment to its constitutional principles, including fair hearing, justice, and the rehabilitation of its members.

According to the Guild, the reinstatement is effective from October 19, 2025, and Igwe is now cleared to fully participate in all filming and guild-related engagements.

While welcoming the actress back, the NEC emphasized the importance of maintaining professional decorum and emotional composure.

Members are expected to exercise restraint in situations that may escalate tensions or disagreements, and Shirley Igwe has been urged to uphold the highest ethical standards as she returns to active participation in the industry.

The Guild further highlighted that her conduct moving forward will play a critical role in her reintegration and in reinforcing the standards of professionalism within Nollywood.

The AGN also expressed optimism that Shirley Igwe’s return will bring renewed energy and positive contributions to the growth of the creative community.

By reinstating her, the Guild demonstrates a balance between accountability and support, reinforcing that while members are held responsible for their actions, they also have opportunities for rehabilitation and redemption.

This approach is vital for sustaining a professional and disciplined environment in the Nigerian film industry, where high-profile conflicts can often overshadow talent and dedication.

Industry observers have welcomed the AGN’s decision, noting that Shirley Igwe is a respected figure in Nollywood with a career spanning decades.

Her talent and experience contribute significantly to the development of emerging actors and the overall quality of Nigerian cinema.

Many see this reinstatement as a step towards fostering inclusivity and fairness within the Guild, signaling to members that past mistakes can be addressed through proper channels and constructive engagement.

As she resumes her career, Shirley Igwe is expected to participate fully in upcoming productions and guild programs.

The AGN has reiterated its commitment to supporting members while ensuring that ethical standards are maintained, thereby protecting the integrity and reputation of Nollywood.

With her reinstatement, Igwe has the opportunity to rebuild her professional image, continue mentoring younger actors, and contribute meaningfully to the creative community.

The lifting of her suspension underscores the Guild’s dedication to balancing discipline with rehabilitation and reinforces the notion that the Nigerian entertainment industry values both accountability and second chances.

Fans and colleagues alike are watching closely as Shirley Igwe returns to the screen, ready to continue her impactful career in Nollywood.
