Reality TV star Mercy Eke has stirred conversation with her candid remarks about motherhood and independence, revealing that she is open to having children out of wedlock.

In a recent interview, the former Big Brother Naija star spoke openly about her readiness to embrace motherhood on her own terms, emphasizing her financial stability and personal goals as key factors in her decision.

Mercy shared that she has worked hard to secure her independence and is fully capable of caring for herself and her future children. She disclosed her aspiration to have three children two girls and one boy—and made it clear that she does not see marriage as a prerequisite for raising a family.

Her stance challenges the traditional narrative that children must only come within wedlock, particularly highlighting that the societal stigma around single motherhood primarily affects those who lack financial stability.

She explained, “I’m ready to have a child outside marriage. This year, I wanted to have a baby, something happened, and I had to choose between that and the baby.

At this point, I think if I get pregnant now, I’m just going to have my baby. I have worked so hard, and I think I can take care of myself and three kids.

I’m a goal-oriented person that always sets things ahead for myself.” Her words underline her determination and reflect a broader shift in mindset among some young Nigerian celebrities, who are redefining what it means to be independent and successful while also challenging societal norms.

Mercy further added, “For me, what people don’t know is all this stigma of having kids without a father is only applied to people who don’t have things going on well for them.”

This statement indicates her awareness of societal judgment while reinforcing her confidence in her ability to provide for her future family.

Her perspective resonates with many who see financial independence and personal preparedness as more important than traditional structures in deciding to have children.

In addition to her views on motherhood, Mercy also lamented the closure of Heritage Bank, where she reportedly has over N100 million.

This acknowledgment of her financial achievements reinforces her narrative of independence and her capacity to handle the responsibilities of raising children without relying on a partner.

Mercy Eke’s openness has sparked discussion online, with fans praising her honesty and courage in breaking societal norms.

By speaking publicly about her plans, she continues to position herself as a role model for personal empowerment and self-determination, demonstrating that it is possible to make unconventional life choices while remaining responsible and goal-oriented.

Her story is also a reminder that the definitions of family and success are evolving in modern Nigerian society.

With a focus on personal agency and financial stability, Mercy Eke is encouraging conversations around single parenthood and the ability of individuals especially women to shape their lives according to their own terms rather than strictly following societal expectations.
