Legendary Nigerian music icon, Innocent Idibia — known globally as 2Face or 2Baba — has opened up about a major personal revelation concerning his first son, Nino. Despite coming from a household deeply immersed in music and creativity, Nino has expressed that he is not interested in following in his father’s footsteps as a musician.

The multi-award-winning singer shared this during a recent event in Abuja held to commemorate his remarkable 25 years in the Nigerian music industry — a milestone that highlights his longevity, consistency and impact on the African music scene. As part of the celebration, 2Face brought Nino on stage, introducing him proudly to the cheering crowd.

“Making some noise for my son Nino, mehn,” he said enthusiastically as the audience erupted in applause. The singer’s joy was evident, not only for his long-running musical journey but also for the opportunity to showcase his son before his fans.

However, 2Face used the moment to share that his son has charted a very different path for his future. Speaking candidly, he added: “He said he doesn’t want to be a singer. He wants to be a doctor.” The revelation was met with excitement from the guests, who cheered loudly at the impressive ambition of the young Idibia.

Although Nino is not pursuing music as a career, he is far from removed from creativity. Born on January 15, 2006, to 2Face and his former partner Sumbo Adeoye, Nino has already made a name for himself as a talented saxophonist. Those close to the family have often spoken about his musical brilliance, discipline, and ability to deliver smooth, soulful sax performances. Beyond music, he has also carved a niche for himself as a model and a social media influencer, maintaining a growing fan base of young admirers who appreciate his style and confidence.

Despite his musical talent, Nino’s decision to pursue medicine reflects his desire to create his own story rather than simply inherit his father’s legacy. It also highlights a broader trend among celebrity children in Nigeria, who often face public pressure to continue in their parents’ professional paths.

In the Nigerian music industry, it has become increasingly common for children of popular artistes to take after their parents. Many fans naturally expect the same talent and career direction from the next generation. One recent example is Wizkid’s first son, Boluwatife Balogun, who officially launched his music career at just 14 years old. Performing under the stage name Champz, Boluwatife released his debut EP titled Champions’ Arrival, stirring excitement among Wizkid FC and the wider entertainment community.

Against this backdrop, Nino’s choice to pursue medicine rather than music stands out — not as a rejection of his father’s profession, but as an expression of his personal dreams, interests, and identity. His father’s enthusiastic support during the Abuja event further shows that 2Face is proud of his son’s aspirations, whatever they may be.

With a strong passion for the sciences and a growing dedication to his studies, Nino Idibia is already proving that the children of entertainers can shine brightly in fields beyond the spotlight. As 2Face continues to celebrate 25 years of musical excellence, he also celebrates a son who is boldly defining his own path.
