Nollywood actress Sochima Ezeoke has taken to social media to publicly express her frustration after being allegedly removed from a movie role over body image concerns.

The actress claims she was told she did not have a “massive backside” or a “hot body,” sparking widespread conversation about body-shaming in Nollywood.

In a viral Instagram video, Ezeoke revealed that she was initially assigned the role of a maid two weeks prior to filming. However, upon arriving on set, she alleges that the role was swapped by the director without explanation.

Confronting the actress who replaced her, Ezeoke asked, “Are you not the one playing the village girl? Why are you acting innocent?”

The actress did not hold back in expressing her disappointment with the decision, pointing out the hypocrisy of the director’s demands. She stated, “I don’t like to bring any issue to social media, but I must speak up. How can you swap my role simply because I don’t have a ‘HOT BODY’. Coming from a director with a flat ass.”

Ezeoke further explained that the movie’s producer had initially reached out to her because of her talent and ability to deliver a convincing performance. Instead, she was ultimately assigned a lesser role, igniting discussions about the need for fair casting practices in Nollywood.

Highlighting the broader implications for actors facing similar discrimination, Ezeoke concluded, “I’m speaking up for all the actors who can act but don’t have the ‘ass’ to carry the role.” Her bold statements have resonated with many within the industry and beyond, shedding light on persistent issues of appearance-based bias in film casting.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges that talented actors face in Nigerian cinema, where physical appearance sometimes overshadows skill and experience. Ezeoke’s advocacy encourages open dialogue about respecting actors’ abilities rather than reducing them to physical attributes.
