Controversial Nigerian preacher, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has stirred heated debate after declaring that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is “more of a businessman than a president.”
The fiery cleric, who is widely referred to as “Indaboski,” made the remarks in a video that quickly went viral on Wednesday. In his address, Odumeje accused the Nigerian leader of failing to prioritize national progress and the welfare of citizens, insisting that true leadership should be defined by service, sacrifice, and development.
According to him, Nigeria continues to lag behind because its leaders have chosen to place their personal ambitions and family interests above the needs of ordinary Nigerians. He lamented that despite being known as the “Giant of Africa,” the country remains unable to provide its people with basic opportunities, a situation he described as deeply shameful.
In his words, Odumeje said:
“I don’t know who’s calling Tinubu president. Tinubu is just a businessman. If you want to talk about a president, call Trump, Ibrahim Traoré, Xi Jinping, and many others, they are all true leaders. Leaders are people who develop their country so that their children and citizens can benefit, but the ones we have in Nigeria are busy acquiring wealth for their own children. Nigeria is a giant of f@ilure not a Giant of Africa.”
The outspoken cleric compared Tinubu to former U.S. President Donald Trump, Burkina Faso’s young military leader Ibrahim Traoré, and Chinese President Xi Jinping. He described these figures as leaders who focus on building strong nations rather than enriching themselves. By contrast, Odumeje argued that Nigerian politicians largely pursue personal gain, leaving the masses to struggle with poor governance, insecurity, and economic hardship.
His statement has drawn wide attention across social media platforms, with Nigerians reacting in mixed tones. Some praised the cleric for speaking bluntly about the failures of political leaders, while others criticized him for what they described as unfair attacks on President Tinubu.
Odumeje, known for his dramatic style and unapologetic outbursts, has never shied away from controversy. Over the years, he has carved a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most unconventional religious figures, often mixing prophecy, social commentary, and flamboyant displays of charisma. His remarks frequently make headlines, sparking both admiration and outrage in equal measure.
In this latest intervention, the self-styled “Indaboski” doubled down on his belief that Nigeria is failing to live up to its potential because of the selfishness of its ruling class. He stressed that a true leader should leave behind a legacy of development and prosperity for both citizens and future generations, not just for their immediate family.
His verdict that Nigeria is a “giant of f@ilure” has added another layer to ongoing conversations about the state of governance in the country. With economic challenges, inflation, and security crises continuing to weigh heavily on the population, Odumeje’s blunt words have reignited debates on whether Nigeria’s leaders are truly steering the nation in the right direction.
