Popular Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has clapped back at a social media critic who mocked her for using a “yellow and black plastic bag” to package food for her visitors.
The drama unfolded after the award-winning movie star shared a cheerful video on Snapchat, capturing the moment she hosted and entertained some of her film crew members at her Lagos home. In the clip, Akindele could be seen warmly handing them food neatly packed in the plastic bags as they prepared to leave.
However, not everyone was impressed. One online viewer decided to take a swipe at the actress’s choice of packaging, writing:
“Aunty Funke, you are not posh at all. Why use yellow and black nylon?”
Unbothered by the criticism, Funke Akindele, who has often been the target of online scrutiny over her lifestyle choices, responded in her usual witty and bold manner.
Sarcastically addressing the troll, she said:
“Oh maybe I need to go and get plastic bags from Macy’s or Nordstrom. Elenu shipoti, you can come and buy nylon for me. I already blocked you. It’s a privilege for you to be seeing my snap. At least you can see I am an elderly person even if I am not old enough to be your mum. Wide mouth.”
The actress’s fiery clapback has sparked mixed reactions online, with many fans applauding her for remaining true to herself and refusing to succumb to societal pressure to appear “posh.”
Akindele, known for her humility despite her fame, has consistently embraced a down-to-earth approach to life, which endears her to millions of fans. Her response serves as a reminder that authenticity often resonates more than appearances in an industry known for glitz and glamour.
This incident highlights the ongoing tension between celebrity image expectations and the desire for genuine, relatable behavior from public figures.
