ollywood star Tonto Dikeh has opened up about her short-lived and ultimately unsuccessful music career, revealing that the negative influence of close friends played a significant role in her inability to make a mark in the industry.

Speaking candidly in a video posted on her Instagram page while performing Don Moen’s “God Is Good,” the 40-year-old actress reflected on the period when she ventured into music, starting in 2013, with songs like “Hi,” “Crazically Fit,” and “Jeje,” and collaborations with artists such as Solid Star and Terry G.

Tonto admitted that she never truly possessed the vocal talent required to thrive as a singer. Instead, she was pressured by friends who insisted she pursue a music career despite her limited ability.

“Watching this video reminds me of the time I had the worst kind of friends who pushed me to release an album,” she said, acknowledging that their influence ultimately led her down a path she wasn’t ready for.

She used humor to reflect on her ambitions, joking that if she had the talent she believed she possessed, she would have rivaled celebrated artists such as Tiwa Savage, CeCe Winans, and Whitney Houston. “If I could sing ehn, una for don dey sick of me… Who is Tiwa? Who is Whitney? Who is CeCe Winans?” she added.

Reflecting on her experience, Tonto warned her fans about the importance of surrounding themselves with trustworthy people.

She described her failed music career as a lesson learned from keeping company with friends who were not genuinely supportive or honest, emphasizing that peer influence can sometimes push individuals into pursuing paths that may not align with their true abilities or potential.

Despite her misstep in music, Tonto has successfully continued her career in Nollywood, where she remains a prominent figure, celebrated for her acting and public persona.

Her openness about her music career serves as both a personal reflection and a cautionary tale for others seeking to navigate ambitions while balancing external pressures.

By sharing her story, Tonto encourages fans to trust their instincts, pursue their true talents, and be mindful of the company they keep, turning past regrets into lessons for personal growth and resilience.
