Controversial Nigerian clergyman, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has stirred massive reactions online after declaring that his intelligence surpasses that of many university graduates.
The Anambra-born preacher made the bold claim during a recent church service, where he addressed parents and urged them to guide their children in choosing what he described as “serious courses” in the university.
According to him, the current generation of students often settle for less simply because of advice from lecturers or the availability of courses, which he believes is a mistake.
In his words, Odumeje said, “This is not the time to allow your daughter to pick just any course because a lecturer says, ‘this is what we have.’ Choose a very serious course. I have read a lot of courses, and I can tell you I know them. That I have not been there doesn’t mean I will allow you to make mistakes. I am more intelligent than even the educated ones. If it’s for my brain, I have first-class certificate brain.”
The flamboyant cleric, known for his theatrical preaching style and controversial statements, maintained that intelligence is not determined by academic qualifications but by wisdom and divine inspiration. His comments have since gone viral, sparking widespread debate across social media platforms.
While some of his followers hailed his confidence, describing him as “spiritually enlightened,” others criticised the statement as arrogant and disrespectful to educated Nigerians.
Many argued that education and intelligence are not mutually exclusive, insisting that the preacher’s comment undermines the importance of formal learning.
Odumeje, who is also called The Liquid Metal and The Indaboski Bahose, has built a reputation for his dramatic sermons and claims of supernatural powers. Over the years, he has attracted both admiration and criticism for his unusual approach to ministry, which blends humour, entertainment, and spirituality.
His recent comment comes at a time when discussions about the value of higher education in Nigeria have intensified, especially as many graduates struggle with unemployment despite their qualifications.
Some social media users, however, believe the prophet’s statement was taken out of context, arguing that he was only encouraging parents to ensure their children make thoughtful academic choices.
Regardless of interpretation, Odumeje’s latest outburst adds to his long list of headline-grabbing moments that have kept him in the public eye. Known for his confidence and unconventional expressions, the self-styled man of God continues to dominate online conversations with his unapologetic personality.
As reactions continue to pour in, it remains clear that Odumeje’s influence extends beyond the pulpit — into Nigeria’s ever-vibrant social media space, where his every word becomes a topic of national discussion.
