Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Samuel Jacob, popularly known as Sammie, has opened up about his struggles with depression and financial hardship one year after leaving the reality TV show.

In an emotional video shared on Instagram, Sammie revealed that his life took an unexpected turn after the show ended, as he battled depression multiple times while struggling to adapt to fame and the pressures that came with it.

Despite the glamour associated with being a former housemate, he said reality hit hard when the cameras stopped rolling and public attention began to fade.

“A year after the show, I lost count of how many times I felt depressed. I would sit alone in my house in Lekki and just cry. A grown man like me with beards, crying and asking God why. Some days I’d thank Him, other days I’d just break down,” he said, his voice filled with emotion.

Sammie noted that one of the major triggers for his depression was financial instability. He explained that while many people assumed he was living comfortably, his reality was very different.

“There was barely money coming in, but I still had a life to maintain. It messed with my head,” he admitted.

The reality star recounted how he left university to join the Big Brother Naija show, hoping for a breakthrough that would transform his life.

However, after the show, he found it difficult to sustain the lifestyle people expected from a celebrity. “I was in Lagos, trying to live up to the ‘star boy’ tag, but there was no real income,” he said.

Sammie described moments of deep frustration and comparison, saying he often felt left behind when he saw other young people thriving.

“You’d see young guys pulling up in their G-Wagons while I will now chop my indomie, wear my fine shirt  nobody will know what I’m going through,” he shared.

He emphasized that the emotional weight of post-show life can be overwhelming for reality stars, especially when expectations from fans and the industry are high.

The former housemate said he has since learned valuable lessons about resilience and contentment, noting that fame without financial stability can lead to emotional turmoil.

Sammie’s heartfelt confession sheds light on the hidden struggles many reality TV stars face after the spotlight fades.

His story serves as a reminder that life after Big Brother Naija is not always glamorous and that mental health challenges are common among those adjusting to post-fame reality.
