Nollywood actress and filmmaker Etinosa Idemudia has opened up about her long and emotional battle with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), shedding light on the realities of living with the condition and how it has affected her physically and emotionally.
The actress, who has never shied away from discussing personal challenges, took to Instagram to share her experience and offer encouragement to other women facing similar struggles.
PCOS is a hormonal disorder that affects women of reproductive age, often leading to symptoms such as irregular menstrual cycles, excessive facial hair, acne, infertility, and weight gain due to hormonal imbalances. For many women, the condition is lifelong and can only be managed through lifestyle changes and medical treatment rather than cured completely. Etinosa used her platform to speak openly about these realities while addressing the stigma that often surrounds women dealing with body changes caused by PCOS.
In her post, she revealed that she had been subjected to online trolling because of her appearance, particularly the fat accumulation associated with the condition. Rather than reacting angrily, she chose to educate herself and share her newfound awareness with her followers.
She wrote: “A lady came to troll me talking about visceral fat. I didn’t get angry, I googled it and found out it is from a female-targeted medical condition called PCOS. I discussed with my Gynae on how to manage this because PCOS has no cure; you only manage its symptoms.”
The actress went on to express empathy and solidarity with women who may be struggling with PCOS in silence, reminding them that they are not defined by the symptoms of the disorder.
“I’m writing this to every woman out there with PCOS to tell you that you are not alone. Even if it’s your husband that is mocking you or strangers online, you will overcome. I carried my baby and you will carry your baby. That facial hair or stubborn fat does not make you any less. You are beautiful and you are enough,” she added.
Etinosa, who is also a mother, shared that her journey with PCOS has not been an easy one. She battled the condition for several years before finally conceiving and giving birth to her daughter. According to her, the experience tested her patience and faith but also strengthened her resolve to speak out and encourage others dealing with infertility or hormonal health issues.
The actress also disclosed that she recently underwent surgery to help reduce body fat as part of her ongoing efforts to manage the symptoms of PCOS. She explained that while medical procedures can assist with symptom management, emotional healing and self-acceptance are equally important.
Etinosa emphasized the importance of understanding and compassion, particularly towards women whose physical appearance or fertility challenges might be linked to medical conditions such as PCOS. She condemned the culture of body shaming and online bullying, urging people to be kinder and more informed before making insensitive remarks.
Beyond sharing her personal story, the actress said her goal is to raise awareness about PCOS and help other women recognize that they are not alone in their struggles. She encouraged those affected to seek medical help, adopt healthy lifestyles, and embrace their journeys with courage.
“PCOS can be managed. It is not the end of the world. Don’t let anyone make you feel less because of your body or what you are going through. You are strong, you are beautiful, and you will win,” she concluded.
Through her openness, Etinosa continues to use her influence to challenge stereotypes and promote self-love, proving that strength and beauty often emerge from vulnerability.
