Afrobeats singer and entrepreneur Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has publicly revealed his aspirations to enter the political arena, setting his sights on the presidency of an African country.

The revelation was made in a video broadcast via Snapchat, where the singer shared his long-held thoughts about pursuing political leadership.

Known for hits like Skin Tight, Mr Eazi, who recently married Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, explained that his political ambition is motivated by a desire to bring fresh, forward-thinking leadership to the continent.

“I have been thinking about it. I think it’s time to share it with you guys. Some of you might be from some country, specifically in Africa, and you are looking for a president; a president who is not looking for money and power but forward-thinking, young, active and can move your country better.

So, I’m officially putting myself forward for the presidency,” he declared in the video.

Although Nigerian by birth, Mr Eazi has a close connection with Ghana, where he studied and launched his music career.

He has often credited Ghana for shaping his style of music, which he refers to as Banku music.

His ties to the country reflect a transnational identity, which may inform his vision for leadership.

Mr Eazi’s entry into politics follows a growing trend of Nigerian entertainers expressing interest in public office.

In recent years, several celebrities have pursued political ambitions or taken up appointive positions, blending fame with governance.

The crossover between entertainment and politics in Nigeria has become increasingly visible, highlighting the influence of popular culture on public life.

The singer joins the ranks of other high-profile figures who have expressed their political intentions.

For instance, actress Eniola Badmus revealed her plan to run for a senatorial seat in April 2025, signaling the expanding interest of entertainers in formal political roles.

Similarly, former Senator Ben Bruce once predicted that singer Davido could one day become the Governor of Osun State, further emphasizing the growing perception that celebrity influence can translate into political leadership.

While Mr Eazi has not specified the country in which he intends to run for the presidency, his announcement has already sparked conversations among fans and the wider public about the intersection of celebrity and politics in Africa.

Supporters note that his youth, creativity, and transnational experience could bring a fresh perspective to governance, while critics raise questions about the practical challenges entertainers face when transitioning into political leadership.

Beyond music, Mr Eazi has cultivated a significant business portfolio, operating ventures in 18 countries, which demonstrates his entrepreneurial acumen and global outlook.

His experience in business and entertainment may provide insights into economic and cultural policy, key areas of governance in any country.

As more entertainers consider political engagement, Mr Eazi’s declaration underscores the potential for new voices and perspectives in African leadership.

By publicly sharing his presidential ambition, he joins a growing movement of young leaders seeking to influence the future of their nations, blending creative influence with civic responsibility.
