Nigerian media personality and entrepreneur Toke Makinwa has opened up about the emotional experience of returning to work as a new mother.
Taking to Instagram, the proud mum shared how attending a speaking event left her overwhelmed when the audience greeted her with “Mummy Yaya.” Toke expressed her joy, noting how her daughter has given her a brand-new identity.
“Mama YaYa…. My Purpose, My reason, My why. I got on stage to speak, and everyone yelled, ‘Mummy Yaya.’ It felt so good to be back at work,” she said.
The former OAP revealed how deeply her daughter has inspired her, including a playful gesture of cutting her hair to match her one-month-old’s. “I’m so obsessed with her that I cut my hair to match hers, and I pray she grows up to know that her mum really worked hard to be the best at everything,” Toke added.
According to Nollywoodtimes, Toke welcomed her first child, a baby girl named Yakira Eliana, in August at the age of 40. Celebrating her daughter, she described the past month as “unbelievable”, praising her mini-me for choosing her and promising to always do her best.
In a heartfelt note, Toke shared how motherhood has transformed her. She revealed that her daughter has helped heal a broken heart she carried since age eight. “I was already drowning in her big ol’ eyes and learning so much of her,” she said.
The media personality also reflected on how pregnancy and motherhood have changed her lifestyle. “Throughout this year, I had been indoors due to my pregnancy, which was unlike me, as I am usually an outdoor person,” she explained.
On her podcast, Toke became emotional while recounting her journey to motherhood. She recalled praying to God to celebrate her 40th birthday as a mum, and soon after, she discovered she was pregnant. “God answered my prayers as I got pregnant the next month after my 40th birthday,” she said tearfully.
