Before the train wedding, Shawn and Sharon had earlier held a colourful Igbo traditional marriage ceremony, known as Ịgba Nkwọ Nwanyi, in Lagos.
The event was a fusion of culture and class, with guests and family members dressed in vibrant traditional outfits hollandaise wrappers, coral beads, isi agu robes, and ichafu head ties evoking memories of post-colonial bridal fashion.
The couple’s decision to tie the knot on a train has since gone viral, sparking admiration and praise across social media. Many Nigerians hailed the duo for pushing creative boundaries and giving a modern twist to Nigerian wedding culture.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) also joined in the celebration, describing the event as “a historic moment that showcases love, creativity, and innovation.” Sharing photos and videos from the wedding, the NRC wrote: “From lovebirds to locomotives, we’re keeping things on track.
History made the first-ever wedding on a moving train in Nigeria. Proof that the journey can be just as beautiful as the destination.”
The memorable ceremony has since attracted attention from the entertainment industry, with several celebrities and fans congratulating the couple for their bold and symbolic celebration of love. Many called it a reflection of the new-age Nollywood glamour, where creativity meets tradition in the most unexpected ways.
Shawn Faqua, who has featured in popular films like Lara and the Beat, Before Valentine’s, and A Simple Lie, has been widely praised for his versatility and calm persona both on and off screen.
His wedding, now a national talking point, has further endeared him to fans who admire his humility and originality.
