Nigerian singer Seyi Shay has spoken candidly about the pivotal role a father figure plays in the upbringing of girls, stressing that a father’s presence can significantly influence a child’s stability, values, and overall growth.
In a conversation on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, shared on X on Monday, the 39-year-old singer delved into her perspective on the impact of father figures, arguing against the growing narrative that men are “not important” in the lives of women.
“Most women who have a father figure in their lives are generally more stable. They had a lot more access to good education and good morals growing up than the ones that don’t,” Seyi Shay said.
She went further to explain how the presence of a father figure sets a standard for women in multiple areas of life, including relationships, friendships, and even the process of choosing a life partner. “Also, there is a bar when they want to get married or when they choose male friends. All these narrative of men are not important is bullsh*t because that’s just an agenda for more divisions in our homes so that we can churn out more broken souls and more lost females and males,” she added.
Seyi Shay’s remarks reflect a broader concern about societal shifts that, according to her, undermine the importance of male role models in families. She emphasized that strong family foundations, including the presence of fathers, are key to raising confident and well-rounded women who can navigate life’s challenges with resilience and integrity.

“I’m grateful I didn’t have a daughter in my twenties because I feel like my experiences and maturity now equip me better to raise a child. I can guide her with my life lessons, helping her avoid mistakes I made in relationships, friendships, and other areas of life,” Seyi Shay noted.
