“Only a damaged person will say a good marriage isn’t a flex” – Eriata Ese fires back

Former Big Brother Naija star and Nollywood actress, Eriata Ese, has addressed the controversy surrounding her comment about marriage not being a “flex.”

Nollywoodtimes reported that, the reality TV star came under fire after responding to a critic who scolded her for showing off a baby bump without being married. Eriata had fired back, questioning what the critic had achieved with a marriage certificate, and hinted she might give marriage a try someday.

However, in a fresh clarification via her Instagram story, Ese insisted her words were taken out of context. She explained that she would never dismiss the value of marriage in a serious discussion, stressing that she understands the importance of family.

“Please ignore bloggers.

I would never say ‘marriage is not a flex’ in a serious conversation.

I grew up in a loving home and know how important family is. If you know and follow me, you’ll always see I have the tag lover girl in some of my posts. I’m not trying to explain, I just want to correct the narrative that is being passed about me because I know how people believe anything they see on these blogs. Only a damaged person will say a good marriage is not a flex.

I know how exciting it feels to be in a healthy relationship, it’s like a dream come true coming home to someone who doesn’t joke about you,” she wrote.

Eriata further clarified that her earlier response was simply her way of engaging her fans online, noting that her intention was never to spark controversy.

“This is me only creating engagement on my post and cruising with my followers, which I always do, and a lot of people can attest to this. I mind my business and stay away from anything that will put me in the blog for any negative narrative, but it seems like it’s almost unavoidable. It’s well,” she added.

Recall that in 2023, the actress welcomed a child. Rumors circulated that she had the baby with a colleague’s husband based in Canada, allegedly causing issues in his marriage. Ese, however, dismissed the accusations, explaining that becoming a mother had always been her plan, regardless of her marital status.

She said her pregnancy was intentional and achieved with or without a husband. According to her, she remains unfazed by public opinion because strangers do not contribute to her well-being. Addressing the husband-snatching rumors, Ese firmly denied being involved with anyone’s partner.
