DJ Tunez, the official disc jockey for global Afrobeats star Wizkid, has revealed that the most difficult challenge he has faced in his career is trying to make peace between Wizkid and fellow superstar, Davido.
During a recent livestream on X (formerly Twitter), DJ Tunez openly admitted that his efforts to get the two Nigerian music giants to put aside their longstanding rivalry and form a genuine friendship have been frustrating and largely unsuccessful.
In his words, “My biggest challenge? Making Wizkid and Davido to love each other, that’s my biggest challenge.”
While he didn’t go into specific details about his attempts or any behind-the-scenes efforts, DJ Tunez made it clear that the goal has remained elusive. He noted that although they have occasionally exchanged kind words in public or appeared cordial, true friendship and consistent collaboration still remain a dream.
Wizkid and Davido, two of the most influential artists in Africa’s booming Afrobeats scene, have a well-documented history of tension.
Their rivalry dates back over a decade, but in October 2024, the feud was reignited when both artists engaged in a public exchange of insults on social media. The outburst drew massive attention across digital platforms, with fans of both camps fiercely defending their favorites.
DJ Tunez’s comments reflect what many in the Nigerian music industry have quietly acknowledged that the feud between the two artists has sometimes overshadowed the spirit of unity that Afrobeats promotes globally.
Over the years, several notable industry figures including singer Iyanya and Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, have urged the two musicians to set their differences aside.
They argue that collaboration between the two stars would not only benefit their personal brands but also boost the global perception and marketability of Afrobeats as a genre.
“Imagine a joint album or world tour by Wizkid and Davido the impact would be historic,” one fan commented in reaction to DJ Tunez’s livestream.
Despite the rivalry, both artists have continued to achieve massive success individually. Wizkid recently became the first African artiste to hit 9 billion streams on Spotify, while Davido has consistently sold out arenas across the world and remains a digital streaming giant.
DJ Tunez, who has worked closely with Wizkid for years and has also been involved in collaborations with other top Afrobeats talents, seems hopeful that one day the rift will be healed. But for now, he admits it’s the one challenge that has continued to test his resolve in the industry.
“I just want peace between them,” he concluded.
As fans await any possible sign of reconciliation, the music world continues to wonder if a Wizkid-Davido truce and maybe even a collaboration could finally become reality.
