Nigerian music icon Inetimi Alfred Odon, popularly known as Timaya, has cleared the air regarding claims that he’s stepped away from music, stating that his recent quiet spell was simply a break, not the end of his career.

In a post shared via his official X account, the veteran singer reassured fans that he hasn’t retired, despite widespread rumours.

“No be say the boy retire, the boy just been dey sleep…” Timaya wrote, implying that he’s been resting, not quitting.

The ‘Dem Mama’ crooner launched his solo career in 2005, using music as a tool to reflect on the Odi massacre in his native Bayelsa State. His 2006 debut album, True Story, earned him national attention and paved the way for what has become a thriving career.

With over two decades in the industry, Timaya boasts eight studio albums, one EP, and an impressive collection of hit singles. His artistry has transcended borders, leading to collaborations with global acts such as Sean Paul and Morgan Heritage.

Though he’s maintained a low profile in recent times, Timaya’s latest update hints that fans can expect new material from the self-proclaimed Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa soon.
