Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has addressed remarks made by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who stated that Obi should seek permission before visiting Edo. In response, Obi firmly asserted that he is not intimidated by traveling to any part of Nigeria.
Speaking in Onitsha during a visit to his alma mater, Christ the King College (CKC), Obi made the remarks while presenting a ₦50 million cheque for the school's infrastructural development. The donation was made in collaboration with other alumni of the institution.
Founded in 1932, CKC has produced several prominent Nigerians, including Dr. Peter Odili, former Rivers State Governor, and two former Anambra Governors — Peter Obi and Willie Obiano.
Obi reiterated that his engagements across the country are centered on promoting national growth, particularly in critical areas like education, healthcare, and the fight against poverty.
“I am not afraid of visiting any state in Nigeria, particularly when the purpose is to support causes that contribute to nation-building, such as education, health, and poverty alleviation,” he said.
He also expressed concern over the political interpretation of his recent visit to Benin, emphasizing that the trip was motivated by a desire to enhance healthcare services in the state.
“I went to Benin to invest in a better life for the people. If they have good doctors and nurses, life will be better for them. What I expect the governor to do is to complement efforts aimed at improving society,” Obi added.
Obi’s remarks underscore his commitment to developmental initiatives, regardless of political tensions or regional boundaries.
