Nollywood actor and former presidential aspirant, Yul Edochie, has come under fire from fans following a tribute he posted for American professional wrestler Hulk Hogan, who reportedly died at the age of 71 from cardiac arrest.
Taking to his Instagram account on Thursday, Yul expressed deep sorrow over the wrestling icon's alleged death. He wrote, “This one pain. What a life. He was our childhood hero. Rest well, Legendary Hulk Hogan.” His heartfelt message, however, triggered a wave of backlash from social media users who questioned his sincerity, citing his past controversial statements.
One Instagram user, Orikoejiro, called out Yul Edochie’s inconsistency, referencing a previous comment he made about his late son. “This one pain you, but the year your son died, you said it’s your best year. Dey confuse yourself. Don’t worry, Jagaban will fix it,” the user commented.
Another user, Yvonnnash, criticized Yul for appearing to chase clout with celebrity deaths. “I thought you criticised people posting people only when they’re dead? You are doing the same? Uncle Tom kpai the other day, you didn’t post him and you’re here as usual chasing clout with the death of Hulk Hogan,” she wrote.
This isn’t the first time Yul has mourned a public figure online. Earlier this year, he publicly reacted to the deaths of two Nollywood cinematographers, expressing sorrow and calling for divine strength for their grieving families. In his words, he lamented “the many untimely deaths in Nollywood.”
Despite the backlash, Yul Edochie’s tribute post continues to circulate widely on social media, sparking mixed reactions. While some fans shared in his grief over Hulk Hogan’s alleged passing, others remain critical, accusing him of inconsistency and attention-seeking behavior.
